Just to clarify height above barrel.. This and any scope on a AK will be 3 1/2 in. (using a 1 1/2 in. high mount) above barrel center and what is needed in a ballistic app for zeroing and a print out for a dope card sheet. Due to gas tube block above barrel, iron sights and picatinny side mount rail are 2" above barrel center. I used a 1 1/2 in high 2" offset for eye relief for center of scope is at edge of picatinny rail and eyepiece is at edge of dust cover. And to note with the TRYBE attached you will need a little more eye relief (pull back a little) for clarity of target. If using a dust cover rail the scope barely clears the iron sights so the TRYBE mount may not go on. If zeroing at 25 yds. tip of chevron on center of target but hits are 2" low for 100 yd zero. Also you will need a high cheek rest to see through scopes. I was almost center of target after mounting at 25 yds and A few clicks 2 in. low. With a 50 MOA height no need for a 20 moa cantilever due height. The TRYBE also has to be centered which only takes a few movements unlike a scopes clicks. But remember to keep that little allen wrench (paint orange) and penny near, loosen and adjust and tighten again between shots (read instructions). To not center with a barrel laser you will be off A LOT.
I have been hunting for most of 50 years with scopes mostly and Front Focal Plane best to come along and for something to draw your eye to center the chevron is superb. For hunting tip of chevron to bottom inside is
Best you will find for the $ and build of glass, other makers without what this has will cost 3x to 4x more. On a AK use a 2in offset mount for proper eye relief and if on the side mount picatinny rail it will be 1 1/2in above rail and the rail is 2in above center of bore. So for ballistic apps be sure to use 3 1/2in high so for a 25 yd zero you will hit 2" low. Front Focal means the radical increase/decreases with power +/-. 1x is great for a red dot effect and 6x is great for that far shot or seeing a hit point on a 100 yard target, and hashes are calibrated for the 7.62 drop out to 600 yards with width length of shoulders at each 100 yards. The horseshoe and chevron pull your your eye better than a red dot. Using the TRYBE Optics Enhancer 2x (doubler) makes it 2x-12x great for hunting. Tip of chevron to inside top tip is 100 to 200 yards.
Easy to zero, clicks on top and side very soft and short spaced so have to feel to count. The best stay zero, a on top of turrets moveable sliding sheet with a small opening to use a pencil tip to move to a bead marker once zeroed after if you want to up MOA there are MOA marks. This enables increasing range if needed. The 123gr 7.62 is 570 yd. at bottom hash (if mounted 2 1/2 in. above). Zero at 25 yds point of impact is at bottom of chevron. The horseshoe and chevron point tip hold eye at 1x or 6x. Hash marks let you range. The Trybe Enhancer gives a 2-12x still good for close up wide view but a zoom for impact view. Excellent mounted on side mount with 2 1/2" offset for eyepiece to be over end of dust cover for eye relief. DO NOT order double 30mm side mount too low. Follow directions on TRYBE when zeroing it, loosen to adjust then tighten allen screw before shooting every time. Two different zeros one for scope and one for TRYBE. Great combo for seeing the long range target and hit. Trybe zero different direction than scope and not marked which direction. Will need a adjustable cheek riser, above iron sight level, folding stock works great.
Have a very old AK BUT like brand new. Watching YouTube AK 47/74 operators and saw this in action. I am just a hunter iron sites mainly (+/- 100 yards in the woods) the 7.62x39 is like a 3006/.308 semi-auto but more than the normal 30cal. semi-auto limited 5 rounds. Hogs being a big problem mag limitations have been lifted in my state due to hunters injured. Using the 2x magnifier (12x) on this scope a 500 yd hog shot is no problem while tending to a bean, corn or hay field. An Ak-47 with folding stock is easier to carry than a big AR and lighter all day while working. A big hog not pig with a 3-4 ft. head and tusks the size of your forearm and buddies headed your way while deer hunting it is nice to be ready if headed home in the dark, BEEN There!!! This scope with lit reticle (bright) and a bright led flashlight on AK you can not miss near or far. And will work with IR scope mounted in front for the night shots. With a 4 in. eye relief it sets back close but at 1x with both eyes open like it is not there but to pinpoint a shot a 6x look will make it with FFP magnification, even count points before the shot. Look real use is getting meat on the table or protection in the dark woods not plinking at metal or paper and this scope + magnifier will get the meat or stop it!!! At $400 the best deal ever!!! Never in stock means it is great!!! Do not order 30mm side mount it is not high enough! Mount on side mount picatinny rail with 2 1/2" offset just 2 1/2" high off barrel, If need
When I went Ruger 6.5 Creedmoor bolt for $350 from my old 30-06 with Nikon BDC FF I saw Vortex FF under glass went and looked it up and the Reticle. As a harvester of deer for food I find myself in thick woods where a 50 yd. shot looks like a 200 or in a soy bean field 500 yds. to the tree line or on a alt. landing field 4K yds. long (B-52 and shuttle). A Christmas tree Reticle is great to see and use. Put one on my new Savage MSR 10 (for hogs) great way out through brush and low light. I saw this here for $90 off no brainer for the old 30-06 and .35 Whelen (primitive gun). It handled the recoil and spot on every harvest. Why 24x I like to count 10 pt plus and measure doe height. Use Strelok Pro select ammo and zero and scope height send to email and print out put on stock to see range at marks and also for those short 35 to 75 yd. shots (they happen). Info on my Winchester 30 06 SPRINGFIELD low rings 1.75 in. high, 6.5 bolt 2" high using med high vortex, and 3" high on MSR 10 using CM-202.
