Midwest industries armors wrench, best purchase in a long time

Written on Feb 15, 2026

So this was an upgrade for my standard generic Chinese made armorers wrench. Which worked yes but could not guarantee it fit every castle nut that I have on all my different rifles. Barrel nut as well. That old Chinese one just was so out of spec. It was very very annoying. So that leads me into this review. I bought this wrench from Midwest interest industries opmod version . This version only comes in the silver finish. Tolerances seem really good, and really what I got fed up with the other wrench was the castle nut knobs. This one fits all my castle nuts and does not dig into the threads on your buffer too. It fits well. You have good engagement and you're able to torque the castle nut properly. I wish I would have bought this first time. I tried to go cheap and it was just always a hassle. If I can say you think you're only going to use that wrench once or twice and you can get by. You're going to use it a lot more than you realize. It's one of those things. As soon as you think you're not going to use it, you get the wrench out again and you make an adjustment. So worth every penny. In my opinion. I was able to use a coupon so it saved me a few dollars.

very good but not perfect

I wish this option the 3.3 length had knurled edge like the shortest option has. I find it very difficult to turn. Make sure you have at least and inch protrusion past the handguard. I did multiple measurements and tried to go with the most integrated streamlined option but I really need a shorter handguard. Btw does not fit aero/atlas s one handguard. The section under the 1913 rail is not received in the center center so it hits the top of the gas block. I decided to modify the rail by grinding about an inch or so under the pic rail to relieve the the area where the gas block sits. It worked. Running a 11.3" barrel so deflection is minimal to zero on a pistol. Can't say it would be ideal on a 16" rifle. Long and short you can get it to work but you will have to modify your rail. I was committed to this rail for other reasons and did not want to shell out another 200-300$ to get something that definitely would have the clearance and then cerakote it to match an already painted upper and lower and risk it not matching.

I must have got a bad one.

Simply I went to install this barrel nut and it would not make it past a couple rotations. I thought maybe the threads on my receiver must have got nicked. Then I test an old barrel nut and it went on fine no issues. So I had to send it back. Appeared that it had a small nick on the threads. I did want to risk a cross thread so I sent it back.

Gas block .750

Good product, good price works and fits fine. Finish is standard melonite. It is ok, could be better. This is a steel gas block which is the reason I bought it. Do not trust aluminum gas blocks. Set screws seem a bit cheap and soft. They work fine, just make sure to use a good fitting allen key to install, or risk of striping the set screw. Its nice that it came with tge roll pin.
