Works perfectly on Defender 20ga 4+1

Written on Feb 07, 2024

Bought to use on a Winchester Defender 20ga, 18.5" 4+1. I remember looking for aftermarket parts for this thing 15+ years ago and couldn't find much aside from stocks that interchange with the 12 gauge. Decided to look into again and learned that the 20ga supposedly uses the same mag tube as the 12. Ordered this on whim and it actually works! Moved it up from 4+1 to 6+1. Using euro 2 3/4 shells (that are just a hair shorter than Federal 3") there is a tiny bit of room after the last shell is inserted. With 3" it barely locks in. Haven't ran it yet, but cycled several times on the bench and no hangups or hesitation from the follower. It extends a hair past the muzzle, but I can live with that for the extra round of capacity.

Okay, works...but better options exist

Written on Dec 24, 2023

First, no logo as pictured; not that that matters, but it's still not as advertised. More importantly...it's solid enough, but the fact you have remove stuff from the rail to install makes it an inferior product by default. To install or remove you'll have to remove anything that's in the way. In my case I was installing on an AR pistol just in front of the optic. Luckily it was a new build, but if not I'd of had to re zero my front sight or optic.

I'm sure this thing will hold up, no compaints there. BUT...there are plenty of options on the market that I have the same confidence in that won't require removing/rezeroing sights to install or remove.

Out of spec pic rail

Written on Dec 28, 2022

Purchased this, looking for a cheap lightweight handguard for a beater pistol build. Not too thrilled with the old school style "pinch" mounting system, we've came up with better ways since this was prevalent, however should work just fine for my use. Also, finish didn't seem that great, very flat and "matte" compared other anodized aluminum parts; again though, not a deal breaker at this price point. My real problem came when I went to mount some top quality, metal back up irons. Noticed the sight was sitting off center when tightened down. On inspection, this is because the "floating" side of the attachment point (the loose clamp piece that the screw would thread in to on my sights) wasn't sitting properly under the top lip of the pic rail. Tried the same sights on the receiver itself and a couple other handguards; no issue. Also tried some polymer sights that have to slide over the rail...even with considerable force it won't slide over this out of spec pic rail. I'm not going to force it and risk damaging a set of sights that cost more than the handguard did.

If you need a cheap rail and have ZERO intention of mounting anything to the pic sections, this may be for you. Otherwise I'd steer clear. If I had realized this before I trashed the packaging it'd be going back.

One of my favorite charging handles

Written on Oct 24, 2022

Not a popular choice, but I have 3 or 4 of these and love them. Been running them for about 6-8 years now. Have them on everything from bottom barrel forged no names to gucci billet matched sets. I have no issues with binding, and pretty much exclusively single-hand charge from the left. Love how large and easy it is to get ahold of in a hurry. Plus, looks don't hurt the case any.

The two negative reviews I saw, IDK, maybe they got a lemon, maybe something is out of spec on their uppers, but either way, POF will take care of it if you give them the chance. I broke the hook on one by accidentally firing several rounds from my LAW equiped pistol without the bolt plunger in place. POF replaced it, no questions asked.

Well made minimalist stop

Written on Sep 25, 2022

Nice machined aluminum piece. If you have RailScales and are looking for an alternative to their insanely priced Karve that fits the opening in their XOS-H rail, this hand/barrier stop fits perfectly at half the price. Glad I rolled the dice on this fitting. Wish I could add pics, but it fits the opening front-to-back perfectly. Fit side-to-side is perfect in the rear (angled side); on the front-most edge of the front (hook side) it is ~ 1/8" narrower than the Railscale opening, tapering out to fill the gap as you move back. Will likely be purchasing again in the future.

You'll never spoon strippers again

Written on Aug 29, 2022

Haven been storing all my 5.56 ammo on clips for years, using the plain ol GI spoons. Recently purcahse some Norma SS109 that was "clipped", however realized on opening that its on some sort of euro plastic stripper clip. Found this recommended on a forum. Having been using the regular MagLula for years I went in optimistic and was not disappointed. Works great for those plastic stripper clips, as well as the regular metal style. The standard spoons eventually start to open up, and then they begin to slide down the mag, beyond their notch, when pressure is applied on the rounds. This thing sits securely and allows more pressure to be applied, and in the correct spot on the cases, every time. Tried on Pmag's as well as standard GI mags. If I had known this existed and was this much better than spooning I would have bought it years ago.

Silence is golden

Written on Aug 28, 2022

Purchased this to go in my 18" "SPR" type build I put together several years ago. Rifle has a plane jane A2 stock/rifle length tube setup, rifle lenght gas. Rifle has been a sweet shooter since day one...dead-nuts reliable and soft shooting. Only thing that sucked was that A2 twang. Decided to give this a try with some OpticsPlanet bucks I had. Surprised to say it all but eliminated any sound from the stock.
