JP 6.5 Grendel Extractor

Written on Feb 20, 2023

I used this extractor to replace a badly milled Lefthand BCA extractor. I wasn't sure it would work on a lefthand bolt, and I couldn't get an answer from the Q&A area, so I took my chances and ordered one. It does work for Lefthand bolts as well. I will continue to order these for my lefthand 6.5 Grendel bolts as JP does not make a Lefthand bolt for a 6.5 as far as I know. I would Highly recommend this part to all Lefty's looking for a high-quality extractor.

Iffy for now. Review 1)

I have shot 8 rounds with this ammo out of a new build with about 83 shots through it. After the first 4 rounds I notice that the front of 2 cases were bent indicating there was an issue, so I took the bolt apart and noticed the ejector was re-milled to fit a 6.5 Grendel and it was extremely loose, so I replaced the ejector with a JP 6.5 ejector and it solved the loose chambering issue then I removed the 3oz buffer and put in an adjustable buffer. I took it out for the second time and still had over gas issues. I will update this review as soon as I get out to the range again to try it with an adjustable gas block to see how it performs. Out of both trips @ 100yrd I seem to be holding a 1-3/4" group. I'm not happy with that grouping and I'm trying to figure out what could be going wrong without blaming it on the ammo but if I end up with the same results after the third trip then I'm sure it's the ammo because I've tried every other fix I can think of and it still shoots the same.

It's worth the money.

This is a great scope for the price. I used it to sight in a new BCA 6.5 Grendel Upper and I could see my shot at 100yrds with no issues, clear glass, Nice reticle, Parallex adjustment knob. I really like the Parallex adjustment.
The windage knob is on the light side and is hard to feel the clicks as you adjust it and the elevation knob is more noticeable but still on the light side and hard to feel the clicks.
The Parallex adjustment is stiff and holds its place well.
I wish for the price Burris would add a set of lens caps and offer a sunshade so if your hunting in the open you don't have to worry about the sun rise or sun set messing with your view.
Overall, I am super satisfied with this scope. I would recommend this scope to anyone looking for a good cheap hunting scope for a 6.5 Grendel.

Good stuff for range and hunting.

I went to the range to break in /sight in a new upper and a new scope.
Upper: BCA Left hand side charging 20" barreled upper mounted on DPMS lower.
Scope: Burris Fullfield E1 6.5-20X50mm.
I did the break in using Wolf 100gr steel case ammo then compared that with PPU 120gr, Alexander 123gr and lastly the Fort Scott Munition 123gr. All I can say is that my BCA upper loves this stuff. I was getting 1/4" groups at 100yrds. I will take this ammo to farther distances to see how well it groups in the future. I do wish it was cheaper, but it is what it is. I will continue to use the Wolf till Ammo goes back down. I would Highly Recommend this ammo for the BCA 6.5 Grendel. I think this ammo would be a good buy at $27-$33 at most.

VG6 Epsilon on 6.5 Grendel

Written on Sep 08, 2022

Awesome Muzzle brake, it does as it states for muzzle rise and looks cool too. I put this with a Lefthand side charging BCA 20" 6.5 Grendel upper paired with a DPMS lower with JP 3.5-4lbs springs. I was able to return on target quickly with this Brake and the muzzle rise was nearly gone. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good brake.

PS: It only reduced felt recoil by about 50%.
It reduced muzzle rise by about 90%.

Overall, it is a wonderful brake hands down.

It's worth the money.

I ordered a Burris 6.5-20x50mm scope and I took it out to my back yard to bore sight my rifle in at 36yrd to get it on paper and as soon as I put the rifle on my stand, I noticed a long scratch in the finish that wasn't there when I opened the packaging. I did not drop, bump, or smack it into anything that could have left the scratch. All I know is it must not take much to damage the finish on this scope. That is the only reason it gets 4 stars from me. Other than that, it has a really nice viewpoint and the etching in the glass stands out really well and is easy to see. The Parallax adjustment is a really nice upgrade from the scopes I have now. The Parallax setting will work from 50yrd on out to long range distances making it easy to sight in at the range. This is my first Burris scope and it won't be my last. I can't say to many bad things about this scope as it was a great value with a great warrantee. I just wish the finish was better and it came with protective lens caps.
Overall, I would highly recommend this scope to anyone looking for a great US made scope on a budget.

JP bolts!!

Written on Oct 12, 2021

I got one of these bolts in my 6.5 Grendel and one in my .50 Beowulf and they both perform great. No issues at all and Highly Recommended. I would however suggest ordering a good carrier of equal quality if you plan on using this bolt in a Beowulf do to the amount of force generated by the larger caliber.

It's worth the money for the flat side carrier.

Written on Oct 12, 2021

The bolt that came with this carrier is out of spec and will lead to jams. One of the lugs on the bolt was not lining up with the lugs on my barrel and started to cause jams, double feeds, and improper ejections. I how ever did match it with the JP Bolt and It performs like a Amazingly now. I would still recommend this carrier for the price but throw away the bolt. The bolt is a peace of junk and get yourself a JP bolt to replace it. I hope this helps anyone looking for this as a cheap addition to their budget build. I took away two stars for the junky bolt. If it was just the carrier it would get a five star rating.

Day vision?

Written on Oct 03, 2021

You can see clearly in the day vision setting and know what your aiming at @ 100 yards unless it's a target for sighting it in. I was going to use tis on my 6.5 Grendel for coyote hunting but when I tried to sight it in @ 100 yards I couldn't see the bulls eye marking and tried to zoom it in but at a 4X it was a fuzzy orange dot instead of red and I couldn't even make out where the 4 smaller target spots were. I have not tried to sight it in any closer then that as of now but I will try it at a 50yrd setting next time. I did put this scope in front of a 3-9x24 and it helps with the distance clarity issue at 2X and 4X but it dose take away from your over all range of view. As of right now the Night vision setting is what's making this scope worth having for night hunting if You can see well enough to sight it in. I will add another update once I get a chance to sight it in. As I said in my last review, this is my first Day/Night scope and maybe it's me and I'm just not figuring all this out on my own right now but as they say(practice makes perfect) and I will keep trying to figure this Wraith out as I go. Maybe I will use my other scope in conjunction with this Wraith to help out with the 100yrd sight in. :)
