Highly Underrated

Written on Aug 17, 2023

Not sure why I don’t hear about Hawke from other shooters/hunters but these are great scopes! I’ve bought 2 now (Sidewinder & Frontier 34) and they perform well - great tracking, clear glass, budget friendly. I’m a hunter and also have NF NX8, Leupold Mark 5HD, Vortex Razor and a few other nice scopes. Comparing the Frontier 34 3-18X50 I’d say the glass is amazing for what you pay. It’s a feature rich scope and has everything all my other scopes have. What makes it better than most scopes is it has a very wide field of view and really good eye relief @ 4”. I love my NF, but the eye relief is only 3.5” as a comparison. For me, that makes a big difference when I’m lining up behind the scope. It’s easier and faster for me to get on target without having to over extend my neck to get closer to scope. My Vortex Razor HD LHT also has great eye relief and is comparable to the Frontier 34. I’d say the glass on the Frontier is about the same as Vortex, which is a good thing. NF glass is better but you pay for it. Same with Leupold. Only downside to Frontier 34 is its weight. It ain’t light. But if that doesn’t bother you, it’s a steal at this price. I also own a Hawke spotting scope which is also very impressive for the money. I came across Hawke years ago when looking for a budget friendly scope for my airguns. I have since started using these scopes on my real guns for hunting and haven’t been let down.

Foggy glass, blurry reticle

Written on Apr 05, 2023

Not a great scope. Read reviews that T5Xi was plagued with issues but still took a chance buying it on sale. Big mistake. The glass just isn’t clear and scope has parallax issues. Foggy and blurry reticle. I see double lines on the reticle and kept blinking thinking it was my eyes. Then another shooter looked and confirmed he saw the same. I own Vortex, Leupold, Nightforce scopes and more. This Steiner just doesn’t compare. No where close. Will be sending it back to see if I got a bad apple. If Steiner can’t fix it, it’s my first and last purchase from that company.
