So many better options

Written on Dec 01, 2024

Is it clone correct... yes. Is is a good design... no.
1) Nut is not captured. Pretty much standard these days.
2) No instructions, torque values.
3) Designed to secure optic with linear clamping force. Because the top part is formed steel, the force applied is pinching the optic. Most modern mounts are designed of aluminum so that they form around the optic.

better qc needed

Written on Nov 03, 2023

-better installation instruction are needed. Had to contact DD for assistance.
-better QC is needed. Anodizing splotch defect on a $230 rail.
- DD customer care sounded generally annoyed. Had a tone like i was dumb for having questions.

That’s how I got to 2 stars. Besides that, I like the rail and it is very attractive.

best optic for the price

Written on Jun 21, 2023

In my experience, this is the best optic for the money considering the features, glass quality, and weight. Vortex is doing what leupold is unable to do. The eyebox is very tight at 15x, at 12x the eyebox is large enough for off hand shooting.

problem solver

Written on Mar 31, 2023

Don't know why it took so long for someone to cash-in on the million glock mos on the market. This design is amazing. Still able to use stock sights and the dot is visible in all lighting conditions. I'll be putting it on all my glocks.

Slick and heavy

Written on Dec 28, 2022

These suck. Dont buy. They make the rail super thick, are slick, and 3x heavier than ergo ladder covers. Ive used the knights rail covers, which are slightly rounded and have ribs. They give a comparable grip to an A2. These are just slick with not extra purchase. Would return if I could. Buyer beware of optics planet close out deals.

It isn't blued

Written on Mar 27, 2022

This is a stainless hammer with painted areas as 'blued.' Bit frustrating wanted to blue the faces only to find out that it wouldn't take. The profile is rounded and pleasant. I enjoy the no snag nature and uses it for ccw.

Fish bowl on low power

Written on Apr 17, 2021

On 3 power the fish bowling is very strong. Comparing it to a vortex that is half the price and 6 ounces lighter, I can't see any reason to own this. It is made in Japan, 22 oz, and $1000. If you are thinking of getting this, consider saving your money for another month and getting the NXS.

PRI isn't so precise anymore.

Written on Apr 15, 2021

Someone else had mentioned having issues with the pic rail have a bow such that it rocked back and forth. Mine has a bow in the opposite direction so that either end of the rail is high by 0.01 inches. This was measured by using a piece of plate glass that I have for just this sort of thing. I could use some machinist sand paper to make it flat.... buy why pay $86 plus my labor when the aluminum rail it was going to replace is perfectly flat. This issue is likely the result of rushed heat treating. I also have a problem with a PRI recce rail being very out of square when mounted. Because that is a fun clone rifle, I accept the issue. Bottom line is that PRI seems to have stopped concentrating on making a good product. Perhaps COVID has them cranking out as many units as possible to meet demand and they just don't care if the quality suffers.

Mk12ModH clone

Written on Apr 07, 2021

PRI does not include instructions with anything they make. So you best have some skills before attempting to install their components. Installation requires a strap wrench or their custom wrench, which is just stupid that they make you buy it for $10. You do need one of these because I got it as tight as possible by hand and it worked loose on the first trip to the range. The rail interfaces with the barrel nut so it is critical that the barrel nut is lined up correctly. It is very difficult to get it to align top dead center without the use of the recce rail. If you place loctite on the hand guard threads, use a very small amount. The threads are fine and I was unable to get it back apart without a heat gun.

Old technology

Written on Apr 06, 2021

Bought this for a mk12modH build and might be returning it. The mk12 variants are still practical option for recce or varmint hunting builds and mine shoots 1/2moa. But this rail has several short comings. At 6 ounces, I definitely noticed the change to weight/balance and with the clone correct optic, it makes for an 11lb 5oz rifle when fully loaded. The attachment system isn't great, causes about 1 degree cant compared to the upper (measured with a precision machinist level). The method of screwing the recce rail to the tube creates additional stresses. The end result was a 3 moa shift both up and left. That shift was much smaller when the same optic was moved between other mounts that were connect directly on the upper. On the positive side, it does ad extra rigidity to the upper receiver and reduces any flexing of the barrel/receiver interface. Also the PRI handguard doesn't have any means of preventing rotation and this provides an additional anchor.
