There are not many options out there for M40 clone builds. This scope fit the bill.
Couple things to note, the green anodizing looks a little different than the image. I'm guessing the scope in the photo was from a different batch than the ones I received. Not a big deal.
I had my scope sighted in a few shots. I wish the green scope had the tactical hunter BDC reticle though.
Thank you Hi-Lux for making this masterpiece of a scope. It is a major improvement over Gen I. This scope proudly sits on top of my 03A1 which is used for vintage sniper.
Clicks are super crisp, and it is nice how the numbers are indexed counter-clockwise. When you dial up the numbers increase. Turret caps can also be reindexed.
The Phenom UHD spotter has become my go to spotting scope.
I am extremely impressed with the image quality and brightness. I shoot service rifle and spotting your shots during rapid fire is crucial. I am able to see my bullet holes at 200 and 300 yards. It is just as sharp as my partner's Kowa.
This spotter punches way above its price point. The body is made of magnesium alloy and it feels like it is built well. Hi-Lux has an eyepiece adapter for the Kowa long eye relief lens which is useful.
Picked Up one of these for my CZ527 223 bolt gun. The glass is clear and good for the money. This gun is used for prairie dogs. I like the reticle and I can find it when shooting in a dark background.
The reticle can be used to rangefind a known dimension. I usually have my rangefinder with me but it is nice to have a backup without needing to do math.
This was my first ART scope. I have a soft spot for the M14.
I had read much about the Leatherwood scopes in Senich's books and heard they were effective from first hand accounts.
Setup was easier than it seemed. Called the guys at Hi-Lux and they sent me a starting cam setting and ballistic chart to use for my 6.5 CM. They recommended that I sight in 1" low at 25 yards. Brought the gun out to 300 yds after and it was pretty close to dead nuts.
After that I was able to engage the steel plates out to 800 using only the cam. Looking forward to trying this out at further distances if I can find a range that long.
The cam works pretty well. I was able to engage silhouette targets at various distances rapidly by framing the shoulder width in the center of the reticle.
I watched some videos on Youtube and found out that you can uncouple the magnification from the cam distance.
I shoot USPSA carry optics and this optic sits on top of my Glock 17 Gen 3. It fits perfectly on top of my Alpha Industries slide.
Things I like about the TD-3C:
1) The large window and FOV
2) The ability to change reticles from circle dot to dot as needed. I like the circle reticle for plates and moving targets. It is very easy to acquire on draw.
3) Build quality. The sight feels solid and rugged.
Came across this scope when looking for an original Redfield M40 3-9x with the green finish.
The scope's finish looks very nice, although a darker shade of green than most pictures I've seen of the M40 scope in Vietnam. Maybe the jungle conditions faded the finish on those scopes.
The rangefinder is an interesting concept and works. Basically you bracket an 18" target of known size. Change the magnification until it fits and then look at the tombstone for your range. Pretty nice to have a backup rangefinder in case the electronics go out.
I shoot CMP Vintage Sniper and have mounted one of these scopes on my 1903A1. Glass is clear and the scope looks good.
The provided mounts track 1/4 MOA when spaced properly but do have a little bit of backlash. I have since upgraded the mounts to the Gen II competition mounts and those are nice!
