Comp good. Picture bad. Misleading picture. Important info left out.

Written on Jul 11, 2022

PROBLEM #1:
I saw a combo of these two on sale for $141, so I looked for a better price. I saw this picture, which appears to be the combo (I knew the thing to the right was a blast shield, but since it says BRAKE "WITH" SUPPRESSOR MOUNT, I figured it was also a mount of some sort). So you only get the brake--not the two things in the MAIN picture.
PROBLEM #2:
This muzzle device ships with shims at some places, but not here. You're not told that you need to buy shims, so buy those as well or you'll have to wait another 5-9 days for those to come in when you get your brake if you order it here. I could have saved money AND gotten shims if I'd bought it elsewhere.
--NOTE: I love Optics Planet. I have been using them for YEARS!! But sometimes being big and having great prices can lead to misunderstandings and important details slipping through the cracks.
---
I'd recommend getting the Griffin Armament Taper Mount--it may not be as effective as this, but you don't have to time it and it's less expensive. ONLY if you've got a 9mm PCC with lots of barrel rise, would I say this might be better. I only got it because I thought it was a good deal.

Best red dot for G43/43X/48, Hellcat, P365, 365XL, etc...

Written on Sep 25, 2020

I've owned at least 8 RMRs (mostly RM06.2s), a DPP, 2 Shields, several Holosun 507/407, and now K=models, etc.
My current favorite is the 407K (I have two) and the 507K (I have one).
I like that the window has less tint than the RMRs; it does have SOME magnification, but you don't notice it when shooting--only when looking around the house. To me, it appears slightly less magnified than RMRs, but more than Shields (which have none).
**Despite the previous reviewer, I think the window looks ALMOST as big as the RMR: yes, it is narrower, but this is the least important dimension really. It looks taller to me, but maybe it's a tie or maybe it's an illusion created by the fact that the edges are clearer, and it's lower. The lower the optic, the more naturally quicker I am to pick up the reticle--the Shields are so much easier than, say, a DPP or RMR.
The only negative thing I can say is that my first 407K seems to have been shipped with an old battery. After only a few weeks, the dot is blinking, telling me to replace the battery. I have duracells here, but the factory supplied batteries should have lasted at least a year or two...not only 3 months.

MOUNTING:
1) This is an issue in that it ONLY mounts to the P365XL as far as I know. IF you have a slide milled for any SHIELD RMS model (or a Hellcat), then you'll have to file down the two rear lugs completely and the front lugs will need to have almost half the material taken off, leaving only like 0.025". I'm not

Just make sure you get a good one...

Everything about this is 95% of what you get from Eotech or Aimpoint, except the EYE RELIEF is better.
I'm not sure if it's a true 3X or maybe 2.85X (I had another 3X that magnified more, but had a smaller FOV)--not sure if the other optic was 3X or 3.2X.
My issue is that there were black marks on the interior lenses (these LOOK like residue of carbon from a lens-pen). There were three of them, and though they didn't really affect performance, I'm sure it would be better without them there.
I bought from another place, and HOlosun is taking care of me.
I'll LIKELY try the new TITANIUM version of this magnifier OR try the JULIET 4 for a lot more money.

Most beautiful machining I've ever seen on a rail.

Written on Mar 27, 2020

This rail has the most complex and smooth machining I've seen.
It's far beyond anything I've had (BCM, Noveske NSR, DD, etc.).
Light and VERY strong, Geissele is my go to for rails now (Radian is my go to for CH now).

Lenses have new coating as of JAN 2019!! I've been shooting mine for almost a year with no scratch!

Written on Jan 14, 2020

Is this a go-to-war bomb-proof optic? No.
Will this work great for 99.9% of Concealed Carriers? Yes.

I find that the fact that it is so low makes me much faster with it than my Holosun 508T or RMR.
The fact that the window has NO tint and NO distortion (unlike the Holosun and RMR) means it's much easier to see darker targets on dark backgrounds and smaller, darker targets in any kind of non-optimal lighting condition.
--
From what I understand, the ones prior to JAN 2019 scratched pretty easily (though Shield will replace the plastic for you for like $75, and now they offer glass too). Scratching was my biggest worry when I got mine here. However, after almost a year of shooting it on 2 guns, with at least 1K rounds, there's not a mark on it. I was anal about cleaning it after the first two trips to the range, but have since gotten to where I just blow it off with compressed air. I only wiped it down by rolling cotton-swabs and electric wd40 every few hundred rounds or few months carrying it now.

Maybe this sight works with 42/43s, but with 43X it shoots way HIGH....

Written on Sep 11, 2019

5-6" high at 20Y.
I had to order a taller front from WC for $70.
Ameriglo needs to fix this issue or come out with sights specifically for the 43X/48.
I hate installing sights, going to the range, and then finding out they don't work correctly.

Best rail of its type...

Written on Dec 28, 2014

I like the design, and it's not that hard to install (though a 3rd or 4th hand is always useful when working with stiff AK sight leaf springs).
The ONLY negative thing is the rear-sight it comes with IS too wide for anything past 25Y.
I like it better than the TWS, but never had an issue with either.
