Best long gun flashlight I've used

Written on Nov 26, 2015

Okay, so I've used a surefire Fury with an IWC mount, an Olight T20, an Olight Maverick M10 with a Procter Weapon Light mount, an inforce WMLX (500 lumens) by itself and with a mount, a surefire x300 (170 lumens), and a streamlight TRL HL (600+ lumens). The Streamlight TRL HL is great if it's on a pistol and you're using the tail switch. I'd totally go that route only because it is more economical - but that's if it's on a pistol with a tail switch. Otherwise, this surefire x300 Ultra (600 lumens) is the end all, be all of lights.
I like lights on the 12 o'clock rail, but I like to activate them using my thumb and I find that the best place for the activation to be just off centered from the 12 o'clock, like the 11, or 1030 position. The surefire has a smaller bezel than the streamlight which means less vision is obscured on your rifle. Also, the switch is more intuitive and easier to use. I really dig the new mounting system that surefire has. Huge improvement over the old x300s. Having the two CR123 batteries side by side is preferable to in line, which makes for a long flashlight that interrupts light or hand placement. I got this 20 percent off with Optic Planet's coupon. If it's available, get this. Worth every penny.
Shooting at night, prior to this light, I found that the inforce WMLs did the best (slightly better defined and brighter center hot spot), with the surefire fury a close, subjective second. Both allowed the same capability of target identifi

Best of both worlds. I love this thing!

Written on Nov 26, 2015

If you're reading this you've probably also watched and read every single review you can possibly find. Honestly, they all fall short. So with a few unknowns about this, I took a shot in the dark, got it, and I love it!
First thing I want to talk about is what to expect. I have this paired with an Aimpoint Micro H-1 in a Larue mount LT660; it's the one that places iron sights in the lower 1/3 of the optic window. So, if you're using a similar set up be aware that you will have to nod your head down ever so slightly to pick up the D-EVO. If your head is in a position to see both, then your red dot will be in the lower 1/3, right where iron sights would've been. So I recommend using absolute co-witness mounts with this to see both simultaneously. Otherwise, glancing down at the D-EVO is like looking someone in the face, then looking at their chest. You can pretty much see both at the same time.
Second thing: I shoot ARs nose to charging handle. In order to get the best eye relief and eye position with this optic, I had to put the D-EVO on the fifth picatinny slot from the rear. This placed the objective (front) lens past the ejection port, or at least in line with the leading edge of the ejection port. With that said: NO (ZERO) dings on the optic from ejected brass. No interference with brass from the optic. No carbon build up on the lens, and no carbon build up that I could see on any portion of the optic. It should be noted I have this on a PWS mk116 which

Great product you can file away

Written on Jun 09, 2015

Okay, so I hate these entries where people open the box and review it without barely even mounting it, yet alone going out and shooting it, but I'm here for you, and you'll see why. 1st, this is an easy 5 stars. I dig it the most behind an eotech over a micro aimpoint. It comes with a riser, but will work without one, even if you have the tall mounts for your reddot. Here's where I have to subtract a star: they gave me the wrong screws for use with the riser. The screw threads are 10-32. The short screws worked great, but the long ones, measuring at 3/4 inch were WAY too long. So I went to Lowe's and got some 10-32 x 1/2. WAY too short. I know right? Couldn't find 5/8. So, I busted out the files (really gotta appreciate the hardness of a file) and went to work. At .62 inches, there was very slight wobble. So I filed another hundredth of an inch and at .61 inches long, rock solid. Yep, that's right. You want to use the riser, you're gonna need 10-32 x .61. For what it's worth, 5/8 IS .625. But you'll have wobble. I'm gonna contact Samson and see what's up.

With that said, at the price, this thing is a great addition to a red dot. I really like it. Glass is super clear, but you're looking through a red dot, so you just need it cleared than whatever you're looking through; it is. It'll adjust windage and elevation; no tactile clicks. Just sorta center the dot, and you're good to go. Mount is slick. I have mine on the third to last picatinny slot, so no r
