Joe G.'s Review of Samson RAM-3XM-SMAG 3.5x Magnifier 3.5x35mm Obj Black
Okay, so I hate these entries where people open the box and review it without barely even mounting it, yet alone going out and shooting it, but I'm here for you, and you'll see why. 1st, this is an easy 5 stars. I dig it the most behind an eotech over a micro aimpoint. It comes with a riser, but will work without one, even if you have the tall mounts for your reddot. Here's where I have to subtract a star: they gave me the wrong screws for use with the riser. The screw threads are 10-32. The short screws worked great, but the long ones, measuring at 3/4 inch were WAY too long. So I went to Lowe's and got some 10-32 x 1/2. WAY too short. I know right? Couldn't find 5/8. So, I busted out the files (really gotta appreciate the hardness of a file) and went to work. At .62 inches, there was very slight wobble. So I filed another hundredth of an inch and at .61 inches long, rock solid. Yep, that's right. You want to use the riser, you're gonna need 10-32 x .61. For what it's worth, 5/8 IS .625. But you'll have wobble. I'm gonna contact Samson and see what's up.
With that said, at the price, this thing is a great addition to a red dot. I really like it. Glass is super clear, but you're looking through a red dot, so you just need it cleared than whatever you're looking through; it is. It'll adjust windage and elevation; no tactile clicks. Just sorta center the dot, and you're good to go. Mount is slick. I have mine on the third to last picatinny slot, so no rear sight for me. BUIS are for pistols anyway. Here's the bottom line. Don't bother with 600 dollar magnifiers. This is a steal for the performance. You know what you get for paying the extra 3-400 hundred bucks? Apparently some one that pays attention to detail and sends screws that are in spec. That's what. But with confidence, grab your favorite drink and a micrometer, and try to enjoy yourself. And yeah, I said "1st" but didn't say "2nd."
