Just like the Vortex Strikefire; only not quite as good…

Written on Sep 01, 2023

I have both the Vortex Strikefire (II) and Tacticon Predator (V1). So far I have zero complaints or issues w/ the Predator. The Optic looks good, feels good, and performs good. Comparing the two, aside from the battery source (the Predator using the CR coin shape and Strike the CR stubby AA shape), they are very comparable. The Predator weighs in a bit heavier at 2.4oz more but is narrower (due to the smaller battery/design), slightly shorter, and stands a little taller in the mount (providing for absolute co-witness). Also, the glass diameter is 28mm vs 30; although you really don’t perceive this relativity small variation. The Strikefire does have better “glass” (imhb), the controls are more tactile (as they are pressure switches as opposed to being dial-rotated), it has double the brightness settings, and, overall, the Vortex just “feels” more refined; if that makes sense? Now, with all that being said, the Predator is literally half the cost or more. The question that then seems to remain, is in two-parts; is it worth it and is it better??? I would say it’s definitely “worth” the price-point. However, if I was in the market for this “style” of optic and could get it for the $120 price range (which is doable), I would opt for the Vortex; otherwise the Tacticon would deserve serious consideration.

cones up short…

As the other reviewer experienced, so did I. I put the Grip on my Palmetto AR15 and it was loose…. I was able to solve the issue with a couple small strips of automotive-adhesive tape (gray putty-like double stick). Other than the fitment issue, the grip is great! Looks good, feels good, and works as intended. Even the fitment gap is virtually unnoticeable. I have had nothing but great experiences with Tacticon; both my father and me have numerous products of theirs. Hopefully they will take notice and correct the issue. Otherwise it’s a 5 Star rating. And I can’t necessarily recommend until issue is resolved; eyes wide open, then yes, I would recommend?

I own numerous optics, to include SwampFox, Burris, Viridian, Cyelee, Atibal, Sig,Vortex, Tacticon, Eotech, and Holosun; oh, and even some less glamorous generic ones too…. ‍♂️ Point being that they all accomplish the task. Dollars also don’t necessarily define the product. It’s just that some do it better, some do it more reliably, and some do it more innovatively. I tend to take care of my sh*t; as it’s typically expensive and it’s my ! I’m not running O-Courses with it or assaulting a beach-head. If I were, I’d want Eotech, Trijicon, and Surefire all-day everyday… However, back here in the real world, many of the brands I mentioned will do just fine. Even for on-duty LEO or Security work. I have come to find that Holosun is one such brand. They also do it better than most, more reliably than most, and with more innovation. It seems they had to partner with Primary Arms to pull-off the Vulcan . Who’d a thunk a “chevron” could be proprietary? Although I do like the chevron quite a bit (for many reasons) it’s the outer 250 MOA ring that brings the innovation in this case. Although muscle memory thru repetition “should” bring the reticle in view; this just isn’t always the case. Numerous reasons can create the environment for such an instance. I find, despite the number of repetitions, that from time to time my sight picture arrives high. I am not sure exactly why this is but some of my coworkers experience the same? I tend to think the “optic” itself
