Nice Ranger!

Written on May 06, 2016

If you are familiar with the Ranger 1000 then this is no different physically. It does have new software which allows for faster ranging times which is nice. You also have to push the range button twice instead of three times like the Ranger 1000 which was a complaint on the 1000. I personally haven't tested this past 400 yards yet but everything <400 that I've ranged has been accurate.

I'd say if you don't already own a Ranger 1000 and are in the market for a new rangefinder, the 1500 should be on your short list.

MCTAR-17G2 on Colt LE6920

Written on Mar 24, 2016

I am very pleased with both the quality and fit with this MI handguard on my Colt LE6920. The tolerances are extremely tight with the Colt but once installed there is no rattle or play at all. Some other reviews have claimed that the rail is hard on the hands, but I've had no problems with sharp edges or anything catching. One of the nice things about this handguard are the QD mounts for attaching sling swivels. This is a very nice addition and makes attaching my sling very easy and quick to install without having to purchase mount adaptors to add to the rail. There are some more expensive (and cheaper) options out there, but for the money this handguard is excellent.

Burris Tripler

Written on Mar 14, 2016

For the money this one is tough to beat! I have this paired with an Aimpoint PRO on a Colt LE6920 and with the Aimpoint all the way forward there is still one rail space to fit a rear BUIS as long as it's a low profile (like Magpul MBUS Pro, the regular polymer MBUS sight will not fit).

Low light performance is acceptable but not perfect, for that you'd need to spend alot more I would think. Edge to edge clarity is very good in my opinion and the eye relief pretty good with the stock fully extended. The Burris beats the equivalent Vortex in every department: clarity, eye relief, and build quality.

Regarding the mount, I read several reviews about the mount having some amount of play. Not sure if those reviews were referring to the push button hinge or the QD lever for attaching it to the rail, but I've experienced no play of any kind. Just make sure you have adequate tension on the QD lever by adjusting the tension screw and you are good to go. Also worth mentioning, I shoot left handed so I had to flip around the mount and remount the tripler the other way. Not a big deal to me but maybe for you if want to use your thumb instead of fingers to flip the optic over. For right handers there is no issue.

So far I'm really pleased with this optic and mount set up. You have to remember that this is an optic and mount for $220, so just keep your expectations at that and you'll be very surprised how good it is.
