a usable rear A2 sight at a decent price

Written on Nov 12, 2025

This sight comes completely disassembled, so one should be careful, especially with the detent balls, as they can be easily lost (using grease helps to keep them in place). This rear sight is not as tight to the receiver as the one from RRA, but it is cheaper, so as the sight goes up and down it turns ever so slightly with respect to the receiver, and when it is almost all the way down, one can rotate it a bit by hand. I know this doesn't impact accuracy, but it feels less solid.

good stripped upper with handle

Written on Nov 12, 2025

It's a reasonably well made upper receiver that I plan to use with a rifle gas system, so lack of M4 cuts is not an issue, but if someone wants it to have M4 cuts then need a different upper.

good slide with no break-in required

This slide makes it very easy to operate the slide manually. The slide worked with no issues out of the box.

Aimpoint T1 4moa is as good as 2moa

Written on Nov 02, 2018

I have an H1 2moa and it is very difficult to tell the difference between 2 and 4 moa. this went on my Ultimak AK47 rail. Since T1 can handle ambient temperatures of 160F this should last well even on the gas tube. All controls work well, the packaging did not include a box, which was a little strange, but all the parts were there. I also bought the aimpoint LRP mount, which lets me have a 1/3 (1/4) lower cowitness on the AK. Worth noting that irons need adjustment when the optic is in place, since there is going to be a shift because of the two glass lenses in between where one is tilted. So clearly it depends on the anticipated usage of the cowitnessing.

Lowest quick release mount

Written on Oct 06, 2018

I bought this to use on Ultimak rail with my AK. This provides good 1/3 lower cowitness. One thing a user must decide is what the backup strategy is. A red dot shifts the POA of the irons slightly, so one should decide if the quick release is the backup or lower cowitness. And short distance it likely will not matter much, but for longer distances the shift can be several inches.

A bright clear red dot

Written on Dec 09, 2017

I tried a few such dots. With astigmatism it is difficult to use a red dot, but one can, given a large enough dot, get used to where the dot is. This dot gets dimmer in the dark and its batteries should last long enough to replace the battery annually while always having it on. I am waiting for my pistol slide to be milled for it, but it works very well on a shotgun with a proper base.
