Solid Stock

Written on Jun 26, 2023

On-par quality for Magpul. Doesn't wiggle on the buffer tube. Very rigid. QD points on both sides. I don't have any complaints. I bought the extended pad to go along with it, and I wish that had a bit more cushion to it, but that's really the only critique I have.

Swing and a Miss

Written on Apr 22, 2023

This thing looks alright at first, but when you get it assembled and installed on the weapon, you realize it has a couple of major flaws.

It's separated into a top and bottom half, and as crazy as this sounds, there's no tabs or anything keeping the two halves secured to each other at the muzzle end, so they kind of just separate and move independently of each other to some degree when gripping, especially if you have a foregrip of some kind attached to the lower half.

Second, the whole thing rocks up and down about a centimeter (measured at the muzzle end) when installed as directed and fully engaged with the barrel nut. This thing is a joke. If I had known it was this janky, I obviously never would've bought it. Don't buy this thing unless you have absolutely no other options. It will prevent hand burns, and that's about it. The only reason I bought it is because unlike the Magpul MOE, the side M-LOK slots are 90-degrees from vertical. Otherwise, it's trash and I'm now doing what I should've done in the first place, which is spend a little more on a quality free-floater.

Don't say nobody warned you.

Doesn't Fit!

Written on Feb 26, 2023

Standard DPMS AR-10 upper... This dust cover is candy-coated trash. Who cares if it looks good if it doesn't fit, doesn't function, and you can't use it?! The cover is too big along the side and top edges, and the spring-loaded ball detent is way too small to catch on the receiver and keep the cover closed.

Trash!

The CMMG Zero cover, on the other hand, fits and functions just fine.

Barrel Nut Out of Spec, Manufacturer Response Appalling

Written on Feb 06, 2023

The barrel nut was poorly machined, and it was clear after measuring it that the CNC machine cut the exterior diameter slightly cone-shaped. The section closest to the upper receiver was over 10 thousandths out of spec, and it interfered with the gas tube to the point that you couldn't even install it.

The manufacturer was borderline indignant about all of this, and they tried to blame the Cerakote, which is dimensionally insignificant. They begrudgingly sent a replacement barrel nut, and threatened not to warrant it if I coated it again, which is technically illegal according to federal law (Magnuson-Moss).

I'll never buy anything from these people again. You poorly machine your parts and then try to offload the blame onto the customer? Un-be-lievable...

Poorly Machined, Out of Spec

Written on Feb 06, 2023

The diameter of the shaft on one side was at least 10 thousandths oversized. The other side was mysteriously the correct diameter. I checked against two other selector switches, both of which fit fine without modification.

I had to spend over an hour sanding down the oversized portion. This is absolutely inexcusable! I'll likely never buy anything made by this brand again.

Will Not Work in a Standard, Semi-Auto AR-15/10, Manufacturer Fails to Mention This

Written on Jan 28, 2023

This trigger requires that the trigger pocket be milled out beyond that of a normal, civilian AR-15 or AR-10. Full-auto trigger pockets like the M4A1 or M16A3 have additional material milled out at the rear of the pocket, and this trigger dimensionally requires that added space. The trigger cannot be assembled inside the pocket without it. As of posting, the manufacturer has nothing in writing stating that the trigger cannot be used with a standard AR-15/AR-10 trigger pocket, but they confirmed that it cannot over the phone. It's too easy to publish this information for everyone to see prior to buying, so why Hipertouch hasn't done this is beyond me. It's not inconceivable that some manufacturer could make a trigger group that facilitates fully-automatic firing WITHOUT needing the additional space in the trigger pocket. This is an assumption on their part, and a fairly short-sighted one at that.

P.S. The M4A1 is a select-fire, fully automatic weapon. The original M4 is NOT. Hipertouch should note that their customers may or may not have extensive military experience, and likewise, a generous amount of exposure to a number of different military weapon platforms.

Versatile, Sturdy

Written on Dec 23, 2022

Bought this because it looked fairly rigid and color-matched the rest of my setup. It is, in fact, quite sturdy. I only have one minor gripe about it, and that's because the legs are rattly when retracted. A little too much play between the polymer and aluminum causes the rattle, but it's fixed easily enough with two strips of strategically-placed electrical tape along each of the aluminum rails. Almost unnoticeable, and now it's as quiet as a librarian in a church.

Roughly 70-80 degrees of spring-loaded swivel. The bottom knob increases or decreases the swivel tension. The OD Green matches roughly to Magpul's. It's versatile because the legs can lock independently at different angles. I can see it being used as a barricade stop in various environments. The legs extend simply by deliberately pulling on them. They make a loud ratcheting sound when you pull on them, but if you need to deploy them quietly, just depress the locking button and then pull. All in all, it's a pretty good design, except for the the rattly legs. FAB Defense can be a little hit-or-miss at times, but this is a solid piece.

Significant Forward Light Reflection

Written on Nov 17, 2022

This optic has a horrible light reflection of the entire cross-hair circle while looking through the front of the optic, even with the lens covers down. The relatively shallow angle of the front lens is what causes this. I'm really surprised I haven't heard anyone mention it before, because it is BAD, especially at higher brightness levels. The strength of the reflection is proportional to the brightness level. Nothing says "shoot me" like the reflection of an active light emission visible on the front of your own optic. I really like Holosun's shake awake feature, but that light reflection is non-negotiable. I'm sending this back. Never would have bought it had I known prior...

Cerakote Color-matched

Written on Oct 31, 2022

I ordered Cerakote swatches and matched the O.D. Green grip and stock to Cerakote's O.D. Green H-236. It seems Hogue paid particular attention to this when they chose the rubber color. Props to them, but I never would have assumed. It would've been nice if they advertised the best Cerakote color to match with so I didn't have to order like 30 swatches... You're welcome!
