I learned about Sightron scopes while reading a review online about the 7mm-08 cartridge being a good elk round. In the review the guy recommended several scopes but this was what he picked. I ordered one from Optics Planet last year and mounted it. Since then I have purchased several 4 X 12 and 3 X 9 from Optics Planet. These scopes are very good in quality. Very clear, windage & elevation adjustments are good, and adjusting the power from 3 to 9 is very smooth. I highly recommend these Sightron scopes. I have not ventured off into their high end scopes as these do all I need. I have recently bought some cheaper scopes for other guns and ended up scrapping those as it now seems that for what you pay for this scope it is well worth it as the cheaper scopes are no good. I read all the reviews and I say it is a dice roll on the cheaper ones(Bushnell, Simmons). I wasted a lot of ammo and time on them recently. So, bottom line is there is no savings so go ahead and get this scope as it is actually better than some of the higher value ones such as Leopold, Nikon, (not the extreme high end ones).
I have been using a homemade vise to use to sight in my rifles. This old system used 2 sand bags(handmade using blue jean leg material) set on top of the homemade wooden vise or box. This sit on top of a special cut plywood board that was 5/8" thick. This board is clamped to one of the old portable work benches. This product was easy to put together. I find the product to be well built. It did help on the shoulder when I put a sandbag on the tray. Adjusting the crosshairs utilizing the adjustment wheels was excellent. Only problem I ran into was once I had it lined up it would move as soon as I shouldered the gun. So I ended up trying to zero or reset it as it has now moved. I found this to be a little irritating. I think the problem is the front "V" is not that secure as the rounded part of the forearm of the rifle doesn't lay into the "V" just right. I tried tightening it but it didn't make it much better. The other problem I had was this new system sits higher than the other system due to the height of the 3 pegs. I didn't have another stool that I could adjust so I had to do the spread leg system to get down where I needed to be. This was tiring and uncomfortable. Finally, and this is my fault, the workhorse was not that steady with me in the odd ball position I was in. I can solve this problem by building a permanent shooting table. I was shooting a Savage Model 11 7mm 08. The gun fit good in the system. I like the system and do recommend it but you have to be a
