Faxon BCG = Excellence For A Standard Price

Written on May 18, 2018

This is top quality. Listing all the good points would take up too much space.
9310 tool steel
Shot Peened
Mil-Spec heat treated
Back of lugs chamfered
Extractor is S7 tool steel
Automatic Rated
Salt Bath Nitride all around

And so on.

Excellent quality at a very good price.

I would have given this 5 stars... but...

It does what it is intended to do. It gives you finer control over the parallax wheel on an AO scope. But there are two problems with it. Neither are deal breakers but people should be aware of them.

The first is that the mounting system is not well engineered. The wheel has a rubber insert that fits over the ribbed parallax wheel. And it is a good fit. But to hold it on tight there are two set screws, which are too narrow. They don't press the rubber against the inner wheel as obviously intended. Instead they screw straight into the rubber. And they are too short to actually hold to the metal of the inner wheel.

But if you don't mind using some good non-permanent glue (like Goop brand) it does hold on well and you can pry it off if you really need to.

The second potential problem is the size. I am happy that I did not buy the larger wheel. I bought the "compact" UTG scope, not the full-length model. And with the compact scope, there is only room for slightly more than 60mm between the scope rings. And the wheel is 60mm diameter.

It fits between... but I am serious when I say just barely. If you get the compact model scope the larger wheel would not work at all, unless you used vertical-split scope rings, which are not very common.

It's a gas tube!

Written on May 02, 2018

So it's a gas tube. But it's nice. The melonite finish matches my barrel, so that's a plus.

And I've had good results so far with AP products.

So, I guess you could say that it's nicer than gas tubes I've used before. But there are only so many ways to improve them.

Faxon Barrel Is Great

Written on Apr 20, 2018

While this is a "heavy" barrel, because of the fluting it does not weigh significantly more than the tapered version. But because of the larger diameter it should be stiffer and shoot a tiny bit straighter.

5R rifling plus the 11 degree crown should also increase accuracy. 416R stainless is another factor that should increase accuracy just that tiny bit more. All the little details were looked after. This thing should be able to drive tacks at 100 yards easy.

Add the QPQ nitride finish and the NPR (nickel-teflon) coated barrel extension for durability, and you have one heck of a barrel. Highly recommended.

VERY Unhappy Customer. I do not recommend this product.

Written on Aug 17, 2016

This is for the GT-16.5-MLK product, but it could be for any of this line.

The idea is great, and the product COULD BE. I read the reviews before I purchased and I was aware there is no anti-rotation system on this handguard, but I can live with that. I wanted a long one because I had a 20" barrel and I don't like the gas block sticking out.

One of the reviews said it came with a steel barrel nut, which is a plus! I checked the Guntec website for this model, and sure enough, it said it came with a steel barrel nut. So I bought.

I should have first looked at the time to ship though. 6 weeks!

It arrived today... and I am not happy. At all.

It arrived in a big box, padded almost ridiculously well, and the box was undamaged. OpticsPlanet had done a good job of packing and shipping.

BUT when I opened it up, I saw that the handguard had several NOTICEABLE dings in it. Small but real dings, with the finish damaged enough you could see the silvery aluminum underneath. Since it was packed so well to ship to me, the damage had to have been done between the time it was manufactured, and the time it was shipped to me. It comes in a clear plastic bag, so you'd think someone would have noticed...

Second (and this is a big one) the barrel nut was not steel, but aluminum. I went back to the Guntec website, and NOW it says "Proprietary Aluminum" barrel nut for this product. Not a mistake on my part: I double-checked it before ordering. It changed between the time I ordered and the time
