I bought this for my Marlin 1895SBL 45-70 Gov't. Its much more fitting than the synthetic sling I had on previously. The leather is 2-ply with a top smooth dyed layer and on the bottom a natural rough-out that together are 1/4" thick. I wear mine with the adjustable setting at maximum length (I'm 6'2" 208lbs). Being leather you can easily make some more holes with an awl and hammer. The only real drawback to this sling is that its really not field adjustable because you have to unscrew brass fittings with a flathead to loosen or tighten, but in all honesty I can't really imagine a scenario where this would be an issue for me. I guess I mention that because its about as close to a fault as I can think for this sling. You will not be disappointed. If your rifle is made of wood and blued metal instead of polymer and parkerizing, your rifle deserves this sling.

I bought this to carry 45-70 Gov't ammo for hunting in N America. Great way to have extra ammo readily available. I bought the XL and I'm happy with the fit. I'm a 38" waist and the shortest hole fit me well (while wearing a t-shirt). This is meant to be worn over clothing and slightly above the belt line with the buckle being in the small of the back. The leather square with the Cape Buffalo then is front and center. The leather is firm but flexible and the canvas reminds me of Carhartt double-front logger pants (tough and all-weather). I intentionally got the XL if I felt like wearing it over one shoulder like a bandoleer.

I mounted this to my 870 and the gunsmith that did the work said its fit was loose. He had to add some kind of metal adhesive. This is fine, I guess, but I was hoping it would fit better. I also wish the size of the bead was larger. Considering its a shotgun, precision shooting that warrants a small bead does not apply. In the end it is definitely more noticeable than the factory sight with no illumination at all. It ain't perfect but I'm not unhappy either...hence the 4 stars.
