No Failure To Eject After 500 Rrounds (so far)

Written on Dec 17, 2023

Installation is easy (especially if you have the right tools).

Auto Bolt Release:
I don't know enough history to know why the bolt doesn't just release when cocked like most modern firearms; but Ruger should just implement it but doesn't - more money for third parties.

Extractor:
I have decade-old 10/22 that fails to eject every dozen or so - regardless of the brand, type, or powder since day 1.
I replaced the extractor and haven't had an FTE in 500 rounds. With my luck, it will do so next range day.

Firing Pin:
Can't really comment, since I haven't experienced enough failure to fire that wasn't remedied by rotating the round 180 degrees. All the strikes were deep, so I've always chalked it up to the ammo.

After the experiment, I immediately installed the upgrades on my takedown.

I bought the kit from Optics Planet (OP) on 8th, got it on the 13th.
Found an issue that weekend (14th) and emailed Desert Tech (DT) the same day.
Got a response on the 16th, and got replacement parts by the 20th.

First and foremost, you can't combine this with a takedown.

Instead, I got a used Ruger 10/22 (one of the older models that came with a scope) from a pawnshop and installed the Trek-22 as soon as it arrived.
The instructions were simple and easy to follow - with screws depicted to scale. The receiver pins are replaced by screws provided by DT, which secures it to the kit. Note, while the trigger spring it comes with isn't necessary based on the instructional videos - even the one made by DT, I still installed it.
The torque specs didn't seem right, so I added a quarter twist after it stopped turning freely.
The trigger doesn't fully reset when dry fired (you have to push it forward a bit to hear the click of the reset), but I didn't have that issue when firing live rounds.
There was a slight issue with the assembly wherein one type of screw types (C) had one too few and another (A) having one too many. This was immediately rectified after an email to DT, and I received a replacement hardware kit a week later.

The report from a 10/22 isn't normally loud, but earpro is warranted with the breech right next to your ear.
When installing an optic, use one with a high riser. Due to the bullpu
