Clarity and light gathering is excellent! The weight is actually a plus in helping keep them steady. I wanted the higher magnification as I am glassing hills quite a distance away. However, unless you have the rigidity of a statue or a tripod it can be tough to hold them steady. A lower power would be easier to keep the image steader. If I had one complaint it would be trying to get the right diopter setting just right. The diopter adjustment ring is quite stiff requiring quite a bit of torque to get it to turn this means the binoculars are moving around making it hard to focus. Once I got them dialed in they were perfect. I have spent hours sitting and observing the hills around our property.

My son-in-law and I have been looking for a reasonable solution to modify our AR's so as to not have to register them. We have tried other solutions but the Hogue solutions is the best we've tried so far. Many of the others we've tried require the removal of the bolt carrier catch. This can make jamming more probable. With the Hogue there is no loss of the catch. It's a little scary drilling into the lower but the results are worth it. My only complaint? They don't make one for my AR 10. (Yet)

This system works exactly as advertised. It is not hard to install or set up. But... it adds a lot of weight and covers your stock which is not a problem if your stock was not adjustable and you don't care about a comfortable, consistent cheek weld. Also, there is no easy way to route the wire so that it doesn't dangle and tangle. Finally, it may be that my battery has a faulty USB port but it doesn't consistently deliver power to the scope. A little searching on the internet produced a viable workaround. I purchased a small external rechargeable battery with 12 inch cable and used one of my extra scope rings to mount it to the side of the scope although it could have been mounted to any open rail section. Neat and tidy wire routing and reliable power for a night of hunting.

To be clear though, this is quality equipment and components. It just wasn't exactly what I needed. It might work just fine for you and your application.

This is a great scope for the price. As others have said, this is a game changer for night hunting. Three nights hunting based two pigs and one coyote. You have know idea how active the night is until you watch it through a thermal. If I were to express one criticism it is the pixilation at higher magnification. It would be nice to move the controls apart a bit more. It's real easy to hit the power button instead of the magnification. Learning the controls and functions takes some time but becomes second nature after a while.

I bought the extended life battery but wish I hadn't. It added weight and covered my adjustable stock making readjustment difficult. Thanks to the internet I found a viable alternative. I bought an inexpensive external battery and used one of my spare scope rings to mount it to the rail on the side of the scope. Provides more than enough power to go through the night. Lots lighter and my stock is now clear.
