Eonomical, More Flexible Cherry Bomb

Written on Sep 13, 2025

I needed to replace a cherry bomb (in its original configuration) that I had mangled while removing it from a rifle muzzle. Now wary of using Rocksett, which is semi-permanent, I saw that this variant bears a hex on the threaded end, in case it stays attached to the suppressor, rather than the muzzle as intended. This is just the sort of feature I was looking for. (No more Rocksett for me.) I also learned that it's considerable cheaper than the original cherry bomb. More flexible and cheaper? I'm in! As always, Optics Planet got the shipment right out, and I received it quickly.

Facilitates Quick Magnification Changes

Written on Feb 08, 2025

Magnification adjustment throw levers are incredibly useful, helping you stay on target while fiddling with magnification. I've used several kinds and this is my hands-down favorite. Sometimes the scope must be positioned such that the throw lever can impede cycling of the action: here you can fold it down, out of the way. It attached flawlessly to an old Nikon scope, which has a narrow mag ring.

Mediocre Fit for the Savage Model 25

Written on Nov 08, 2024

I waited some weeks for this trigger (I got the one with 8 oz spring) to come into stock. Installed, I couldn't get the bolt in-- finally found that I had to slam it with the heel of my hand (trigger fully depressed, as always with the Savage bolt guns). That's something I dislike, especially as I have to do it with the action cleaning tool and bore guide I use for cleaning. It does not fit as it should. I Had trouble getting the safety to work. On close inspection, I see that the design didn't quite fit, so there was some hand adjusting done afterward. In this case, it meant that someone ground the side of the 6-32 socket cap screw that restrains the trigger when the safety is on. (The screw itself is inappropriate for this purpose because of the knurled head.) The grinding was so deep that it compromised the hex socket, and the safety plate catches on the crack in the screw gead. (I took photos that I was going to submit with this review, but I don't see a way to upload them.)I have removed the safety until I can get a screw to fit. I'm tempted to modify the groove in the safety plate itself-- a more time consuming but more appropriate fix than the factory expedient of grinding one side of the screw head off. The trigger itself is almost straight and sits in the center of the trigger guard, which makes it difficult to reach, as my rifle came with a thumbhole stock. At the range, I got 3 of my 40 shots as slam fires-- not from working the bolt roughly, but my precaution of l
