A Vast Improvement

Written on Dec 13, 2015

If you're carrying a 21A, it's because you're lightly dressed and the 21A is better than nothing. The charm of this laser is that it gives you the opportunity to illustrate to a miscreant approximately where the bullet is likely to strike. Hopefully, that will be adequate for the adversary to reconsider their plan and you won't actually have to fire.

As to size of the unit itself, it doesn't add much to the tiny little 21A. Sure, a little, but not enough to make it worth consideration. To me, at least.

I was concerned with some of the review comments that the activation switch is in the wrong location. I think that depends on the size of your hands, because I've had no problem at all with it. For reference, I'm 5'7" with average size hands. Your mileage may vary, depending on the size of your hands. You can also keep from activating it just by not pressing as firmly as you normally would with your ring finger, if you're still trying to de-escalate the situation but want to be ready.

The one thing about it that I do NOT care for is that it comes from the factory zeroed for 15 yards. Hey, if someone is 15 yards from me, I'm not about to shoot them with a .22 unless they're shooting at me. Ten feet would be more appropriate, but of course, you can adjust it to your preference. My concern is that in the heat of the moment, you might rely on the laser for sighting at an other-than-zeroed distance, and at the distances that one should use a tiny pistol, you can be off

Nicely Made!

Written on Dec 13, 2015

I have quite a few of these for different calibers. Although some people say it can't hurt, dry-firing always makes me a bit nervous without one in the chamber, no sense in taking a chance on damaging a weapon. The cost of these is considerably less than a single trip to the gunsmith.

I like them considerably better than the plastic ones from their competition.

A Good Deal for a Good Home Defense Light

Written on Dec 13, 2015

I bought two of these to test, rather than more expensive alternates. Both were tested on 9mm pistols and had at least 100 rounds fired with the unit in place. Both still work fine and maintained solid locks on the pistols.

The amount of light delivered is good for inside a home. I have a more powerful light from another manufacturer, but it can almost be blinding off a white wall. These seem to hit a happy medium, which is appropriate for home defense, but probably not for large commercial spaces.

I'm also quite fond of the lever lock, rather than having to unscrew it from the weapon.

I can attest they attach well on the Bersa Thunder UC 9mm and on the small polymer frame EAA Witness in 9mm. The unit is just a hair too long for attaching to the limited space on a Beretta Ultra Compact PX4 in 9mm.

Please note: I bought these as gifts for use by my adult children in defending their homes. There's no way I'd scrimp on keeping my kids safe and I believe these are reliable and appropriate for that use. The decent price is a benefit. I'll probably buy another one for *me*.
