7.62x39 AR15 version loads Grendel too!

Written on Jul 04, 2019

Are these types of loaders necessary? Not really. Do they speed things up? Meh... maybe a fraction of a second. I probably wouldn't even bother with this type of loader on a PMAG or something similar but they are nice on metal GI type mags like the ones I have for my 7.62x39 and 6.5 grendel AR's. The edges of metal mags are a lot sharper than polymer so these are a real finger saver. They aren't really much faster to load because it pretty much takes the same amount of time to flick the little lever as it does to manually push a round down into a mag. They do require slightly less effort because of the leverage you get with the little switch. The unloader feature is kind of fun to play with and handy if you want to break in a real stiff mag spring or something before hitting the range by loading and unloading really quickly. I mean, we all know the best way to unload a mag is to shoot it but if you need to break in a stiff new mag and can't get (or can't afford) a lot of range time, it's something you can do in front of the TV without even looking most of the time. This model is really handy all in all because not only does it load the 7.62x39 AR mags, it also loads 6.5 grendel because they have very similar case dimensions in the areas that matter for this tool to work. For reasons that are still being theorized on forums, all the current production magazines for x39 and grendel are metal GI type mags, if something like a PMAG was available (and reliable) I would have those

A little disappointed...not as pictured, no auto flip

Written on Jan 11, 2019

So first off these seem to be relatively well constructed and decent quality for back ups. Main issue is that the picture showed the sort of "HK style" front sight and these seem to have been replaced by a different model that have a totally different front sight style. I wanted a cheap set with this style front so these looked great but not what I got. The manufacturer doesn't list the style pictured on their site either. The other thing is that I thought these were automatic flip up sights because they had a button on the side in the picture but it turns out, that's a locking switch so you have to hold that spring loaded button down and manually flip the sight up at the same time and then the button locks the sight open. This is totally my fault though because I missed it in the description that DOES say 'must be manually flipped up'. All in all they do seem to be pretty good quality for the money but not really what I'm looking for. Although I may just deal with it since they're just back up and the price is right. Haven't decided yet.
