This is my go-to light for weapon mounting. I have 4.

Written on Jan 20, 2019

I have owned and played with many weapons lights. This is my current go-to and, except for special circumstances where you want something shorter, I’m not sure why anyone would want anything else. Even the price is reasonable compared to others.

You get a reasonable weight, top of the category lumens AND the ability to use either 123 batteries or a rechargeable battery. What more could you ask for?

OK, one proviso and the reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5: If you want to run a tape switch, the Surefire switches are overpriced. Expect to pay a lot of $$$ to run a good switch.

Holographic sights are amazing

Written on May 09, 2018

Wow. As the owner of many different optics now, including red dots, ACOGs, variable power scopes and more precision scopes, I was impressed with how clear this optic is. Given the choice, I think I would generally prefer a holographic optic like this over a red dot as you don’t need to be perfectly aligned to still have the reticle remain on target.

I can’t compare this to those produced by other companies. I tend to head straight for the best, and in this category, that’s EOTECH.

Easiest scope to use well

Written on Mar 31, 2018

After tons of research on “the best scope to get for your AR”, I landed on this one. I was not disappointed. Since then, I’ve also purchased many more scopes that compete with this in some form or fashion. Therefore, I can write this review with some level of knowledge.

This scope has the best eye relief. If you haven’t tried using different scopes, you might not know how much this can provide a benefit. If you have a single rifle, set it up perfectly and train with it constantly, you can probably get away with what most other scopes offer in this area. However, if like me, you have multiple guns and switch it up a lot, you will really appreciate how quick and easy it is to get a good sight picture with this thing. The RMR red dot is also amazing and easy to use. I will admit that it is not necessary for those that want to go with the non-RMR version of this to start.

Glass quality, durability and warranty are all Trijicon great. You won’t have any worries with this scope, ever.

Micro H-2 on an MP-5

Written on Mar 30, 2018

I purchased this Aimpoint Micro for my MP-5 (clone) and was not disappointed. The quality of this product is top-of-the-line, as one would expect from AimPoint. The micro was the perfect size for this pistol/SBR and partially co-witnessed with my iron sights. The multiple levels of brightness let you set the red dot for whatever scenario you encounter. I was also appreciative of the built-in covers that flip-up easily to get out of the way, but also leave the sight perfectly useable if you leave them down or are in a rush and forget to pop them up.

I chose to get the version that would not work with night-vision in order to save a few $$$. At some point, I may wish I had the more expensive model, but right now it's great as-is.

Great all-purpose light jacket. Bonus that it's for shooting.

Written on Feb 13, 2018

I originally saw this jacket at a retail store at full price ($274 I think?). It's one of those jackets where you can tell it was made with quality in mind and likely worth that price. The fact that you can get it at a lower price makes it a steal.

This jacket keeps you warm, but not too warm. It also is waterproof and moves easily so that it never feels bulky. I've used it several times for shooting and loved it. It doesn't get in the way and I've even been able to use the stretchy insert that hooks over your thumb (optional....just don't hook your thumb through it if you don't want to use it) to keep my hands warm on a cold shooting day. It's designed to create a complete seal between the jacket and gloves, but I find using it without gloves at all is pretty good.

The challenge with online shopping is really understanding what a product is like sight-unseen. Believe me when I say that this is a jacket that looks and feels like a $300 product.
