Great Grip - IF

Written on Nov 01, 2020

This is a really awesome product. I only gave it 3 stars though so what's the deal with that??? There's a huge IF. If you have average to small hands then this grip is probably super awesome, beyond belief, amazing! I don't. I have large maybe extra large but not Shaq or E.T. large hands and this grip feels like a kiddy toy in my hand. Think J Frame Smith and Wesson small. Probably cool if you were putting it on a 5.56 SBR. But seriously if you were putting it on anything that you might have to handle with just your trigger hand it's simply too small especially with the limited amount of texturing that it has. I really wanted to use this, anything but the same old Magpul grip again right? its just too small for my hands. I can't imagine anyone one handing a larger caliber weapon using this grip. When are they going to make matching furniture too?

7.62x39 The Easy Way

Written on Nov 01, 2020

I wanted to add a 7.62x39 to my AR lineup and I went through my parts bin to see what I had and started thinking about what I would need to buy or change. A few of my AR friends were pretty discouraging about how they had tried it and had very unreliable results for various reasons. Ultimately I decided in this case it would be better for me to buy than to build. Boy was I right! I have dropped this on a few different lowers to make sure it's not a fluke. This upper will chew through anything I feed it. Brass case ammo, steel case ammo, good ammo, junk ammo, new ammo, old ammo, you name it. The ONLY think this upper is picky about is magazines. For ME on several different lowers. Duramags worked flawless. I'm not going down the list of what didn't work well it's long. Duramags and this upper in every lower I tried ran everything. 7.62x39 is cheap. Yes the upper is expensive - have you checked out the price of 5.56 or 300 Blackout lately? If you need to train or want to shoot this is money well spent. Plus sometimes just having something different is cool!

NOTE: I bought the MILSPEC version. You will need to consider your buffer weight depending on the caliber you purchase.

Best Mount Available

Written on Nov 01, 2020

This is the absolute best mount available for the Spitfire Gen1. I'm so sad to say that they went to the new gen optic, but if you are lucky enough to have the Gen1 then THIS is definitely the mount you are looking for. I found that for my face shape and stock configurations I was able to use the low mount more constructively than the high mount using this optic mount. So having said that I would recommend taking the time to put things together for what you think will work, test fit it and then take it apart and reassemble with thread locker. Don't get dead set that you are going with the high mount because it will co-withness with your flip up sights or whatever perfectly and threadlock everything together right out of the box. Sorta think your way through why you bought an optic that has an etched reticle in the first place? Failure mode is a black reticle right. Why did you buy a QD mount? in case the glass is destroyed and you can't see through the optic and you need to get it off the gun in a hurry to use those irons. So what difference does co-witness make again? Back to the mount. I love it. It's bombproof and will repeat zero after removal and installation. You probably will need to adjust the tension on the lever to make sure that your not having to crank down on the lever to get it to lock into place. I found that it should be at about 30 degrees from closed before any resistance is felt is just about right. Highly recommended!
