what a great value

Written on Oct 04, 2018

This is my initial impression after receiving and fitting the vest to me. First off, WOW what a value!! rifle rated plates and side plates with a carrier for this price. That's the reason I actually bought it - affordability.

I went with the swimmers cut, after waffling a little between it and the shooters cut. Swimmers cut was the right choice for me. I'm about average upper body build, 5'10" 175 lb 40" chest. I was concerned about having enough space to shoulder a rifle with the shooters cut. The swimmers cut is a great fit for me. It leaves enough room to shoulder a rifle and push your hands forward and together like a pistol shooting stance. Doing some quick dry fire presentations, felt good, no interference. If you have broad shoulders or a larger chest, you could probably go with the shooters cut and have enough room to work with.

The plates that come with this are the single curve plates, not the triple curve. I would say it's not a huge deal but I'm sure the other plates are slightly more comfortable. The plate kinda rests / presses against the part of your body that sticks out the most. Kinda like breathing between two walls. I bet the trauma pads would help even out the contact.

Fitting the carrier was pretty easy, it took two or three times to find something that felt good and fit correctly. Putting it on is pretty easy once it's setup - remove one side strap and fish it on, then reattach and fold the front panel down. I'd estimate the weight to be around 20 lb

favorite target

Written on Oct 04, 2018

You can't beat the value packed into this target. I can run a whole ccw practice session with only one target. It got little targets for warming up, two bullseyes for rapid fire grouping or shot diagnosis, different color / shape targets for command drills, and a life size human silhouette for ccw with the bonus of the organ outlines for crtitical hit count. Can't beat it.

my fav way to carry shotgun ammo

Written on Oct 04, 2018

I bought this and ran it during a shotgun course. I thought it was better than belt mounted options. The construction and elastic were fine, didn't lose any rounds. For what it's worth I wanted one more row of shells, but theres plenty of options for that.

Multicam is not multicam, shoulder buckles in a bad spot

Written on Oct 15, 2017

I bought the multicam option, and it's not multi-cam. Now that I see what camo pattern it is, I could have bought this for $30 less elsewhere, and I probably wouldn't have bought it because I wanted Multicam.

The shoulder padding is nice and thick, could carry a lot of mags, but there are huge buckles and padding right where you need to shoulder the rifle / shotgun. In use, you have to maneuver around it or put the butt-stock right on top which puts the pressure from shots through the buckle into your shoulder and changes length of pull - not good.

I'm disappointed, would not recommend.

good sights, like them on my XDs

Written on Sep 30, 2017

I really like the integrated fiber optic and tritium combo. The sights pop in daylight and are good at night. The front sight has a white ring and contrasts nicely in daytime - easy to pickup when bringing it up on target. Compared to a set of trijicon sights I have on another pistol, the size of the dots are a little bigger. The trijicons are a little brighter - barely noticeable. Overall I'm happy and would recommend.

This is THE handguard to have on your AK

Written on Mar 12, 2017

You just can't beat this thing.

Pros:
It's inexpensive
has attachement capability
is light
has a heat sheild
works and looks good with the Ultimak rail
has the color options to match what you have

Cons:
None, buy it already.

Nice, but not necessary

Written on Mar 12, 2017

You can only read and watch so much about glock triggers before you just have to put your finger on one to see what it's all about. Having bought a G19 gen 4, I gave this a go.

The pull is lighter by my own judgement, but I don't think the difference is significant. If you have good fundamentals, this will not be the difference between hitting and missing.

I'd say it's a nice to have but not necessary by any means.

Cons:
I do notice that doing a press check is a little more difficult. Something about the initial motion of the slide has more of a "catch" to it compared to the stock connector. The force required to move the slide is not consistent with this connector compared to stock. Peeping in the back of the gun, you can see the slide engage the connector. The shape must stick out a little more than stock, because this is where the extra resistance is coming from.

Great target, all the best features in one

Written on Mar 12, 2017

Pros:
-Bullseyes for accuracy or rapid fire drills
-Command targets neatly integrated
-Organ/vitals outline is subtle and doesn't distract when shooting but gives feedback on effectiveness of shots.
-Size of target is that of a small(ish) person, so not the huge profiles seen on some.

Cons:
-bullet holes are not very crisp. I get oblong bullet holes. Not that big a deal. Can hardly call it a con. Wouldn't want to score a match with it, but for practice and self defense training, this target is great.

can't make windage adjustment

Written on Feb 22, 2017

When making windage adjustments, the hole in the "C" on the other side of the screw isn't big enough for the part of the sight being moved. It's very close to the same size, mine gets stuck in the tool. I have to drill the hole out to allow the tool to work. I have a WASR10.
