TRU-SPEC BDU Original Shorts - Men's
Yes, these are my favorite shorts of all time, including the great Banana Republic men's cargo shorts from the 1980s before they switched to ladies' fashion. Let me list the ways that these Tru-Spec BDU shorts are great: 1) They are made of mid-weight, 100% cotton, rip-stop material. It's breathable in hot weather, and it's durable. I get a decade or more of regular use out of a pair. 2) They have a roomy cut that is not confining and that contributes to good ventilation in hot weather. 3) They have great pockets with lots of room for carrying what you need, especially the two front and two side cargo pockets. I almost never need to use the rear pockets. The cargo pockets have two buttons for maximum security if you're traveling in pickpocket country. Or you can keep one unbuttoned for decent security and easy access. With both unbuttoned, I can easily stuff my boonie hat in one when I get out of the sun. They are plenty big and deep enough for my iPhone 15 Plus in its protective case. About 1" of my phone sticks above the pocket for a perfect combination of maximum security and easy access. I have often wondered who was the camo genius who took the ori

Mediocre Results and Deforming Jackets
Written on Jun 21, 2023
Compared to Berger bullets, I have not gotten very satisfactory results with the 143 ELD-X in terms of either group size or muzzle velocity standard deviations using either H4350 or H4831SC. ELD-X bullets are also easily deformed during bullet seating by my Wilson VLD seating stem, unlike Bergers. Apparently, the copper jacket is very thin on the ELD-X at the front. In order to stop the deformation during seating, I had to reduce seating friction and force by expanding my case necks with a .264" mandrel (I use a .263" mandrel on Bergers) and lubing inside the case necks. For carrying loaded hunting rounds in my rifle's magazine and subjecting them to recoil, I prefer loading with a little more neck tension than that.
