Para2 Cru-Wear version
Written on Aug 05, 2025
As perfect as an EDC as it gets. Perfect size, deployment, and extremely sharp. The brown micarta feels a bit 'cheap' for such an otherwise premium knife. It looks much better after I apply a thin coat of camellia oil on the light brown micarta handle. The oil darkens and provides a less rough texture. The overall feel is much better. The blade...is what makes this version of the Para2 stands out. My first Cru-Wear steel blade and it's become a favorite in my collection: super sharp and looks great. The pivot deploys smoothly, as in all the Para2's. The compression locks works quite well with one hand. Overall it's a 9/10 perfect knife. The only thing I wish Spyderco should have included are nine extra T6*3mm screws to cover all the extra holes. With these holes exposed, the handle looks unfinished and small particles (e.g., sands, and food particles, etc.) will get into them. While the factory clip works okay; it would have been better if it is a true deep pocket design. The factory clip leaves ½ inch of the handle exposed. Even these minor design shortcomings, the Para2 remains one of the best pocket knives for daily use.

Another great knife from Hogue

Hogue Mysto Collectors 3.4in Folding Knife
I own and use 5 Hogue knives. The Mysto by far is the friendliest EDC, small, slim, smooth deployment, super sharp and light weight. Excellent deep pocket clip. Hogue (e.g., X5) has one of the best factory blade finishes; the Mysto is no exception. Unlike other more purposeful models for the military or law enforcement personnel, the Mysto is a truly EDC for the rest. Superb product at a good price.

Great EDC knife, just not great value

Benchmade Bugout, 3.24 in Folding Knife
I bought the CF version. It's an all around great EDC true pocket knife, light weigh (barely 2 oz.), slim, and very sharp blade. While in a pant pocket, it seems to disappear. The carbon fiber finish is top notch. Smooth deployment action. Overall great design and workmanship. It's jut a question of value at $330 retail; hence a 4 star instead of 5.

Spyderco Smock 3.39in Folding Knife
Very well made, compact, rugged, exceptionally friendly to use. The S30V blade stays sharp, and is shaped and factory grind to perfection. Deployment mechanisms are smooth and effortless. The scales and the rest of the body are finished in jewelry like refinement. The snag-free pocket extraction is smooth. Its compact size and well chamfered edges make this knife a true EDC.
