Caldwell Ballistic Chronograph
The first unit I received had some issues. The unit would not communicate with my Android smart phone. Caldwell customer support sent me a 15 foot USB cable and adapter at no charge which fixed the communications issue. The second problem was excessive errors. Caldwell replacement unit at no charge....

Worthless for load development
For load development is totally worthless. Got a string of at least 150 errors even without shooting. Tried with and without the shades on a nice sunny day. Shot 16 rounds and got only two readings with a difference of 100 fps when both shots hit the same exact spot at 200 yards. Tried setting it cl...

Excellent Product
I purchased this chronograph with some hesitation because of the negative reviews that I had read. However, upon receiving it, setting it up and using it, I can’t say anything bad about the product or it’s quality. it was easy to assemble and ver accurate. The carrying case makes transporting it convenient. My son & I are avid bow hunters. I use a Wicked Ridge 410 crossbow. My son hunts with two different bows (Hoyt & Mathew’s) and alternates them on different days. We have tested our bow speeds and they are all accurate to the bow manufacturer’s rated speeds. I can’t wait to take the chronograph to the range and checkout the speeds of various calibers and ammo manufacturers products on my firearms. Glad I didn’t listen to the bad reviews!!

Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph
This new Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph version 2.0 is awesome. Everything works as it should. Bluetooth connects every time to the app and I am on Android platform. The premium kit is a plus with the built in light kit and tripod. The new version runs on 3 aa batteries and that is it. No more 9v battery or separate battery pack for the lights. Thank you for a great product caldwell and a great price optics planet.

Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph
I purchased the chronograph for reloading purposes. I shoot Steel Challenge and need my reloads to have a Power Factor of 80-90%. Using the chronograph has helped me achieve the desired results. I also plan on using it for my 30-06 reloads and to see what my crossbow speed is. I recommend it to any reloader or sportsman.
Pros:
- easy to use
- easy to setup
Cons:
- Obsolete phone Jack connection
Would recommend: Yes
Did just fine
Took it out on an early, cloudy morning...used the supplied lighted sunshades...and it picked up every shot. I had bought a non-caldwell "bargain" unit online, it was all over the place with readings, and then had to buy another one...dismal at best. Should have spent the money and bought this one. It was cheaper and better in the end.
Not sure with Android phones, iPhones are not very user-friendly with the direct connection,(mine is an 8). I dug tried an old iphone 4 I had stored...but it would not let me install the app as that phone was too old. At only 10-12 feet away, it isn't too hard of a chore to write values between shots.

Pros:
- With out of the box 9mm...it holds accuracy well.
Cons:
- No surprise it isnt very compatible with iphones . I had heard about this upfront

Won't connect to a Google 7 pro phone.
It use to connect with a adapter but since the last update it no longer will. Have no idea whether it will connect to other phones but it won't work on the latest giggle phone. I really loved it until recently but unless there's a accessory to connect via Bluetooth I'm down to pen and paper and hand calic.

Reasonable results but Cheap Tripod that broke
Two of the plastic latches that hold the extended legs in place tore after one use. The legs were not very stable. The chrono itself gave reasonably accurate readings by comparing a factory load with a known powder & bullet to a reload of the same. It's reasonably accurate (+/- 100FPS)with 1500 FPS handgun loads for target shooting and hunting. I don't include reload self - defense reloads because in today's prosecutorial environment it doesn't make sense to carry reloads. There are a lot of external variables that must be controlled to get good repeatable results. Just like reloading it takes tinkering and practice with your equipment to get desired results. If you are fortunate to have access to an indoor range or a sheltered bench at your outdoor range those variables are much more controllable and will give you significantly better results. For the price, if you to learn how to use it, is a decent value. If you are working on match rifle loads you are not going to be satisfied. Either way plan to buy a better tripod at an equal or greater cost to your initial investment if you are going to use it a lot.
Pros:
- Reasonalble
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Handgun reloads for hunting and self defense practice only.

This chronograph works as advertised.
I have used this for both rifle and bow and even my sons bb-gun. As far as the limitations I have found on a clear sunny day in direct sunlight it occasionally failed to read. I did go to the trouble to place in the shadow of a building or table. After positioning in a shadow I had no further issues. As far as accuracy this thing is dead-on. When I entered the chronograph bullet speed of my 300 WM the bullet drop from 100 yard zero was exactly what my ballistic calculator predicted at that speed at 200 and 300 yards. I would definitely recommend this product.
