I bought this to help me run the spotting scope for my wife during her long range competitions. Right now, I'm using it with a Leupold spotting scope. It works, after a fashion. The hardest part is carefully setting the spring-loaded (and very well padded) arm & brace arrangement to hold your phone ...

The Carson universal is a great idea, and it does get the job done, but I feel like it could be improved. I bought this for use with an Iphone 6, and while it does work with this phone, it doesn't work as good as it could. The camera lens on Iphone is offset to the right corner of the phone, and ...

I have an IPhone 6S and keep it in a lifeproof case. While it fits width wise it is just a little too long with the case on to use the adapter without doing some cutting to the pad on the vertical end. I haven't decided whether to cut it or return it yet. I don't like taking the phone out of the case when I am outdoor particularly on rough terrain where there is water so I am going to try without the case before I decide whether or not it is what I want to use.

I'd read reviews of this item before I purchased it, but wanted to experience it myself. The reviews that claimed that the adapter does not clamp onto oculars very well are true, as I experienced the problem myself, but was able to do a better job of securing the device by binding the clamping arms with some soft twine, but imagine a good rubber band would work as well.
I found I could not get my digital pocket camera to focus once mated to my binocular ocular with the adapter.
To get a decent photo with my cellphone required that I move the adapter around to get a good mating of the camera lens to the ocular of my binocular (in this case. The photos taken of nearby terrestrial items came out fairly good, but when trying to capture the recent lunar eclipse, the mating issue, as well as the lack of light gathering ability of my cellphone produced a less than desired photo, but should have been expected.
All in all, the adapter will be put to better tests by me in the near future, but I anticipate the adapter will be relegated to daytime use. It is fun to play with.
Pros:
None
Cons:
needs secondary way of clamping to ocular

I've really enjoyed using the Carson Universal Adapter with both an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 6 to mount to my telescopes. I find that it's an incredibly easy to use adapter, which is especially important when you're working in the dark. The mount doesn't provide a COMPLETELY 100% tight grip, but for certain applications (such as Astrophotography) it's more than enough! I wrote a more detailed write up (with pictures) of how I use it with my telescopes on my blog here: http://www.iastrophotography.com/a-new-favorite-smartphone-adapter-for-astrophotography/
Thanks!
Matt
Pros:
easy to use
Cons:
not the tightest grip
Best Used for:
iPhone astrophotography

The item description on the web site did not mention this device would not work on a rifle scope and that's why I really wanted it. Does not hold tight on my tactical binos nor take clear pictures of the mill pattern in the binos and the the item of the picture.
