Most Helpful Positive Review Good introductory telescope for the price
I bought this for a 12 year old girl with a passing interest in astronomy. She seemed excited by it and we had little trouble setting it up or learning to use it. She could easily find the moon and Jupiter, and with a little effort located the Pleiades. Finding a sturdy base is a bit of an issue-...

Most Helpful Negative Review Very basic beginners scope but a passable performer.
I have many scopes ranging from this one that I won at a star party up to a $50,000 scope. I also have a 100mm Orion Sky Scanner 100mm scope very similar to this. The Orion costs a bit more than twice as much but is a much superior scope optically and the eyepieces on this are nothing to write home ...

Great Telescope Very Easy To Use

by Doctor Bones McCoy, from NY, United States Written on December 9, 2021
Having many Telescopes including the Celestron Travel Scope 70 Telescope, I can honestly say that this Telescope the Celestron First Scope is a very easy Telescope to use. This Telescope has something for everybody and it comes with two Eyepieces the
H20 mm and the SR 4 mm and you can also buy the Celestron First Scope Accessory Kit which includes the 5 X 24 Finders Scope and Bracket, two Eyepieces an H12.5 mm and a H6 mm Eyepiece plus a CD a Moon Filter and a nylon carry bag. but most importantly it is a dobsonian Telescope and you can place it on a picnic table and a Tray table. I like the First Scope Telescope is because it's a grab & go Telescope. It's a really fun Telescope to use It's great for anybody and you can display it in your house it's a terrific keepsake. This particular Telescope is really fun to use.

Great Telescope, Easy and Fun to Use

by Doctor Bones McCoy, from NY, United States Written on October 20, 2021
Having various Telescopes, I find that this Telescope is very easy to use and fun. Having been in Astronomy since 2018 I've been using this particular Telescope off and on. Last night I have used this Particular Telescope for an hour and all I can tell say it's really easy and fun to use. This Telescope came with the following eyepieces a H20mm and a SR4mm Eyepiece. I also bought the Celestron First Scope Accessory kit which contain a 5 X 24 Finders Scope with a bracket, a CD a carry bag,and two additional eyepieces. The eyepieces in the accessory kit are an H6mm and a H12.5mm eyepiece.

When using this Telescope all one has to do is place it on a hard surface, I put it on a Piece of wood kitchen slab of wood that I got from my basement and then I put it on my Tray Table, and then I put one of the eyepieces in the focuser. Another thing about this Telescope is you don't have to contend with a Tripod, due or any other thing. With all my various other Telescopes that I have I need a Tripod. With this Telescope the Celestron First Scope you don't need a Tripod. For the Finders Scope that came with the Celestron First Scope Accessory kit I have it but I don't really attach it onto this Telescope all I do is Pan, Up and down left and right. And select an object, aim, point, and focus. As to a 2X Barlow Lens, I am debating about buying one. All in all I like this little mighty Telescope and it's fun to use.
Pros:
  • Easy to use and fun
Cons:
  • No Cons
Best Used for:
  • Astronomical viewing

AWESOME !!!!

by Nanny, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on December 26, 2014
I purchased this item for my 8 yr old granddaughter for Christmas hoping it wasn't too kiddish or too hard for her to use being the first time. I was amazed as much as she was. A few pointers to her on not turning too tightly, etc. and she was off and running. Easy to view for her but not childish. It's been quite overcast but watching birds and such was wonderful for her, she can't wait to see the galaxy. I got the accessory kit as well and she has no problem changing out all the lenses to see what each one can do. To hear the squeals of delight tells me I made a perfect purchase and Celestron made it easy for me to find the right one. Thanks a trillion, guys !!

Best Beginner Scope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on April 29, 2012
This is an entry level scope and I would highly recommend this for anyone who is taking their first steps into the subject. Given the lack of any computerized feature and or finderscope, it really makes the newcomer adjust and learn how to spot objects using a reflector telescope with/without an eyepiece. One thing I was not too fond of was the Dobsonian mount, given the difficulty it is to setup a target, the wind and or kids that are asked to come look through the eyepiece would eventually 'move' it. This isn't too big of a problem but it's tedious just because it isn't a computerized scope. I highly recommend this for anyone with kids or anyone getting into astronomy.
Pros: Ease Of Use, Good Images for the Price
Cons: Mount isn't too steady

Celestron Firstscope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on October 17, 2009
Great first astronomy 'scope. Can't beat the value for price. Am using while teaching a group of 8th graders about astronomy. I've added a less than ten dollar red dot sight (for a pellet gun), as it is hard to find sky objects w/o some sort of pointing aid.
Pros: Value for $
Cons: no finderscope
