Most Helpful Positive Review Omni 150 Reflector
This is the best telescope for the money bar none. The Omni 150 makes other 130 to 150 class telescopes look like toys. Pros: Great looking scope that had top notch optics Cons: none
Most Helpful Negative Review Celestron Omni XLT 150mm Telescope Newtonian Reflector 31057
The mount vibrates with the slightest touch. You can see deep space objects but very blurry and small. I bought a bunch of eyepieces and barlows to try and get closer but to no avail. The worm gears have too much play in them. You can easily move the scope without using the knobs. Tried to adjust the...

Fantastic value, a cut above similar 6" f5 scopes

by Jim, from FL, United States Written on May 29, 2017
A great "catch-all" scope that delivers value in a solid, excellent package.

I do want to take issue with another reviewer who bemoans about severe coma at very low magnifications with this scope...ANY f/5 optical system used at magnifications below about 30x or so will have severe coma at the edge of the field of view. This is an optical characteristic, not a defect or flaw in the optics, as is implied. You can buy eyepieces at considerable extra cost to nearly eliminate the coma, or just use a higher magnification. When collimated, the images in this scope will amaze you. A high-quality scope with easily adjustable optics.
Pros:
  • Great quality throughout
Cons:
  • None that I found

2017 the XLT 150mm Newtonian reflectors delivers

by jefferson, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on January 27, 2017
2017: The mount is very stable and stays with target at celestial speeds with motor drive upgrades, in my case I purchased two drive motors. I don't experience any play with the drive motors and if there is play, Celestron website under troubleshooting tells you how to fix tight or loosen mount movements. The CG4 mount with drive motors also supports my NexStar 8SE OTA and I have taken nice pictures of Orion Nebula, IF you have your mount polar aligned, if not you will only have 5 seconds of stills before you see star streaks. For the price of this unit displayed here, its a very good bargain to build on and learn how to use your german equatorial mount. I can tell you this, to the naked eye, the 6 inch OTA Newt is very wonderful. I have taken this Newt to the dark hills of West Virginia, West By God Virginia and the Omni XLT 150mm delivered and stayed dead on with the celestial objects; stars and nebulas, drive motors can't follow solar objects.
Pros:
  • Fast F/5 Newtonian
  • Great Price - BUY IT
  • Can use drive motors
  • Can support my 8 inch SCT
  • great cg4 mount
Cons:
  • Not computerized
Best Used for:
  • Celestial objects with drive motors

Great scope, great value, fast shipping

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on April 14, 2011
I ordered this scope on Sunday evening and it shipped Monday morning. It was delivered by Friday.

So far it's been pretty cloudy around here, but I have managed some great views of the moon and Saturn, despite iffy conditions.
Pros: a great value, high quality optics, impressive looking-scope,
Cons: expect to need accessories pretty quickly: some form of collimator, shorter focal legth eyepice

Excellent Value Newtonian Scope

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on November 5, 2010
Strengths:Solid mount; lightweight portable scope; comes to thermal equilibrium quickly; OTA has extra features including mirror adjustment screws and a nice finderscope; OTA performs very well at higher mag (85 to 112x)
Weaknesses: Suffers from severe coma at mag below 37x, a disapointment for wide field scope;supplied 25mm lens is useless
Comments:This is my sixth telescope, and I have side by side compared this scope to others including refractor, SC, and Dob newtonians. It compares favorably, and is an excellent scope at higher power mag, but falls down at low power mag, reducing its utility. As shipped the scope was out of alignment, and I worked hard to max alignment. To use this scope you must have an alignment tool, and preferably experience aligning mirrors. To get the most from this scope a variety of lenses are required, so plan on spending the money you saved on the scope, on a set of lenses. No polar alignment scope is provided, which is the only missing piece in an otherwise excellent value package.
Pros: Solid mount, many nice features on OTA
Cons: Severe coma below 37x; requires many lenses

Great Optics

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on November 30, 2008
For this being my first real telescope I couldn't be more happy! I can see things I didn't even know were there and when coupled with the motorized clock drive I can track objects from rise to set.
