Celestron C5 Spotting Scope
While I can only compare the C5 to your standard 60x scopes that you can rent at the range. I must have read hundreds of reviews on every manufacturers products but what finally made me choose the C5 was that if it didn't work well as a spotting scope I could give it to my grandson and he could use it to look at the stars. When it arrived I was a little taken aback by the size of it. It comes with a 50x eyepiece but I went ahead and ordered an auxiliary set of 5 eyepieces and filters to give me a myriad of power options.
Well I was not disappointed with the operation and extreme clarity of t...

If you have a good Tripod
I like this telescope a lot. I think it makes a great spotting scope, and can be powerful enough to do some star gazing. One thing you should know. It needs a good astronomical Tripod. With a camera tripod, you can not use this telescope for star gazing. Much too wobbly, had to focus.

Celestron C5 spoting scope
I always say go big or go home. While the size of this scope necessates a large tripod, you see 7mm holes in a target at 300 yards with no problems. I have not used it at 400 yet as I consider that beyond my comfort zone for a kill shot, but plan to try it to see what I can do. This is strictly what I consider a range scope as you would need a porter to carry it and the tripod in the field.

My 5 yr long experience
My primary reason for purchase was for Long Range rifle practice. I had a typical 80mm/60 scope that had a difficult time seeing .22 holes at 200yds and .30 at 300yds. I purchased this model about seven years ago. What a difference.... Yes, I can see bugs walking on the target. Price has gone down since I originally purchased it here but I have enjoyed using it for 5 plus years. Negatives are ... it is not water resistant or proof. If they made it water proof it would be perfect. I purchased the variable eye piece 8mm to 24mm. that brought it up to about 150X. This enables me to not risk my life when yahoos at the rifle firing line are tampering with their firearms why I would be down range. Like with any telescope. the more light the better. I also finally purchased a heavy solid tripod. I was using a light camera tripod but clumsy stupid idiots at the range just seemed to stumble every time they got near it. Scope is bulky but I recommend it for 300yr viewing and safety. I just wish they designed one what was weather proof. Ok, it is for planet watching but it works very well as a spotting scope. I recommend their variable eye piece
Best Used for:
- long range marksmen

We Love It
We bought this to watch birds from our lake cabin deck. We bought the attachments to hook our canon camera to it and it takes wonderful pictures. It focuses on both near and far away objects. For our purposes it is a wonderful scope, does exactly what we wanted it to do.
