Most Helpful Positive Review Perfect stock
This stock is perfect for anyone wanting a fixed stock with a shorter length of pull than an A2 stock. One review stated difficulty finding "A1 buffer tubes", but all rifle length buffer tubes for AR variants, including AR10, are identical. The A2 requires a spacer at the end of the buffer tube (rec...

Most Helpful Negative Review CMMG A1 buttstock
I liked the length of the buttstock but wish it was the same material as an A2 buttstock. It is lightweight and I can get my nose on the charging handle if I need to. It did not come with a A1 buttstock screw. I had to order that through Brownells. Overall for the price I am happy with it.

I would not recommend purchasing this for any AR platform unless it is airsoft.

Cheap alternative

by Caleb, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on May 26, 2024
I purchased this to replace an A2 stock on an old colt rifle of mine because I like the shorter length of pull. This product was fully functional, but disappointing. I honestly expected a lot more from CMMG. This stock is NOT a reproduction, but rather a cost-reduced look-alike. The is NOT foam core, but rather just hollow molded plastic. Theoretically gives more room inside, but it sounds hollow when I tap it. The main disappointment for me was the butt plate. The fit between the stock and the buttplate is poor with gaps and overhangs. Worst of all, the trap door is just molded plastic with a "living hinge" and a plastic snap closure that makes me think of Tupperware. I'm seriously reluctant to put anything inside because the door is so flimsy. I wanted to use my colt butt plate from my A2 stock on it, but the dimensions are so out of spec that it barely fits with poor alignment. I may be able carve on the stock with my Dremel until my mil-spec butt plate fits, but that may not work. I will keep this stock and use it, but if I could do over, I would buy a legit repro A1 stock from H&R (PSA) for just a little more money. On the plus side, my stock DID come with an A1 length screw. I bought one separately because I read that this stock did not come with one, so now I have a spare, I guess.
Pros:
  • Cheap
Cons:
  • fit & finish
  • Flimsy door
Best Used for:
  • low cost build

Great A1 Replacement!

by Peter, Verified Owner from ID, United States Written on June 9, 2021
I used this as a replacement for my Calvary Arms A1 stock. The length of an A1, but with the styling of an A2 stock! Doesn't come with a screw, but since I replaced an A1 with an A1, I already had the screw.
Pros:
  • aggressive stock
  • A1 length
Cons:
  • trap door release button is really hard to open
Best Used for:
  • replacement stock

A1 butt stock

by Dado, from KY, United States Written on April 30, 2021
Butt stock of very good quality, I have installed two others on rifles I have. Easy installation and function is great, if you want a stock shorter than the A2 this is a good option. Just don’t forget to order the installation screw for the A1 stock as well.

Simple stock, easy install.

by Calvin, from GA, United States Written on September 14, 2020
Just finished capping off my 6.5 grendel lower with this stock. Good stuff! I like the length better than the A2 and the install was a piece of cake. I've read some places that the buffer tube is impossible to remove? I took out the top butt-plate screw and it came right out. I *do* wish that they wouldn't put the buffer in the same bag as the stock without some kind of protection, the buffer and spring left a good bit of scratches on mine, but this rifle isn't going to be a show piece, so that's okay.
Pros:
  • Simple, Affordable
Cons:
  • Finish

Great and Solid A1 stock

by Ivan, Verified Owner from IL, United States Written on May 13, 2019
Very happy with this product. The stock is black and solid. I like the fact that it has A1 length but the look of an A2 stock. A1 was too long for me so I went this route and I love it. I have small arms and it feels great. I gave it 4 starts because it didn't came with the upper A1 Screw. I trusted the Q&A that someone said that it should come with a screw but mine didn't. It made me waste time on my build because of this. I had to go to another source to order it and would take another week. Other than that everything is great about the stock. Plastic door but I have seen duty rifles like that so no worries.
Pros:
  • A1 lenght stock with the look of an A2 stock
Cons:
  • Doesn't come with upper screw

A1 stock for my A4 build

by ArizonaGuns, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on April 1, 2019
lightweight, solid, and the perfect length of pull for me. I'm 6'1" and have a ta31 ACOG on top of my build with a very short eye relief. my initial choice of stock was the newer hogue overmolded fixed rifle length stock. with the pad attached to the hogue, it was longer than an A2 stock. comfortable, but just too long for me or anyone of my friends who tried to shoot it. This A1 stock fixed all of my issues and did so in a smooth and classic way. very happy with my purchase.

The only gripe is that there is no kind of padding and there is a compartment for storage. I was under the impression the A2 stocks were the only ones with that feature.

the sling attachment point is solid and won't move on you. I out 500 rounds through my A4 yesterday and the stock performed better than expected.
Pros:
  • light
  • attractive and functional
  • Perfect Length Of Pull
Cons:
  • No Butt Pad (Only Plastic Pyramid Pattern)

Cmmg A1 length stock

by Griz, from WV, United States Written on October 26, 2018
Love this length stock. It should be noted though that although the description says A1 assembly, it does not include buffer tube, buffer, or spring. This is something to be aware of because sometime it can be a chore to locate A1 length buffer tubes.
Pros:
  • length
Cons:
  • No buffer tube
Best Used for:
  • Traditional builds

Original stock

by Jedi15777, from OH, United States Written on August 17, 2017
A1 worked well on my 20" build. I had the longer length A2 stock and for some reason it felt a little long for the. The A1 fits just right although it it probably one setting longer than what I have on most of my collapsible stock setups I really prefer the solid stock setup. I started with a BCM 20" complete upper and then I found a bcm complete lower. I was originally going for an m16A2 build but again the a2 stock was too long for me. These A1 length stock have become harder and harder to find.
