Most Helpful Positive Review Not just a "Dirk", it has some history behind it...
For the uninitiated, the PROPER name for a "Scottish Dirk" is a Sgian Dubh. Pronounced: Skeen Doo. There were developed in the 18th century when it became poor manners to wear your long sword to the table at another person's home. At first, they were more like short swords, carried in the armp...

Most Helpful Negative Review Cold steel Scottish Dirk
Beautiful materials that come together to make a fine looking historical blade. Just not sharp enough out of the box to shave hair or meet my standards. I have never used this blade in a rough manner, but I think it would hold up fine. I purchased it for my collection, what I call a pretty knife. I ...

Nice knife but also disappointing

by bob, Verified Owner from NE, United States Written on September 20, 2021
The knife (or dirk) itself is very nice except for two points - one easily fixed and the other not so much. The metalwork is well done and finished. The blade finish is a nice satin with the fullers polished. The wood is black, not dark brown as pictured. The blade is not sharp ootb - the first Cold Steel I've ever gotten not shaving sharp ootb - and that's the easily fixed problem. Disappointing though - the blade wouldn't even cut paper. The not easily fixed problem is the blade/guard junction - the grip is pretty wide. Peering in, you can see glue easily. The scabbard, again, is nice but has two flaws. The locket does not match the guard evenly - the gap is wider on the blade side. The other problem is retention. The scabbard comes with two pieces of thin plastic held in place with double sided foam. It holds the blade just right until you draw and reinsert a few times - then, unless you're very careful the plastic will either bunch up or come out altogether. With the plastic gone, there is no retention at all. Overall, these are pretty minor problems in a good looking knife. Once it's sharp, it should perform as good as it looks.
Pros:
  • Looks great
Cons:
  • not sharp ootb

Optics Planet Customer Service Excellence

by Steve, from MO, United States Written on July 28, 2020
I looked all over for a Cold Steel Scottish Dirk. I could not find one at reasonable price until I placed my order at Optics Planet. The item was on back order and Optics Planet updated the status of my order periodically until my Scottish Dirk arrived.
