Why I absolutely HATE to see the DESERT TECH REFLEX OPTIC go.
I hunt, I enjoy pinking targets, but I have absolutely no interest at all in rifles for CQB.
So I'm in a different market than most I suspect. To each his own.
What I like about it.
It's simple, has no bells or whistles, it's tiny size, very light, and the fact that the split column mount blocks my view less than any other optic I own.
I've never had any use for a "shake awake" function, and never had the need for an auto-off feature. When I'm done shooting I turn off the red dot with no more thought than removing the magazine. So I don't need or want those features.
I also love the fact that it runs on a CR2032 battery. I can pick those up just about anywhere. Heck at our local supermarket they have those on the rack next to the cash register with the tabloid mags, and the gum. Where I am they're as common and easy to get as triple A batteries.
I also have found that that battery lasts for more than a year in this red dot. So the battery just isn't an issue for me. Nor is replacing it. All that's required is a small Phillips head screw driver, and about two minutes of my time.
THE ONLY ISSUES I HAD WITH IT were both easily fixed.
First an foremost is the bolt that locks it onto the pic rail. IIRC it's a 10-32 Button Head Cap Screw, the head of which strips quicker than one of the girls at the local bouncing booby bar. So I just swapped it out for a 10-32 Socket Head Cap Screw, and that solved that problem.
Second was the same complaint the above reviewer had, that p...

Absolutely not worth it.
This should be a $50 no-name Chinese knock off. It does not have an auto-off feature. Cover is useless, hard plastic instead of formed rubber (I can literally brush it off with my fingertip). Rail attachment is very fiddly and awkward. Really feels like airsoft quality in all regards. The mount itself is slim and lightweight. If the mount were a common footprint it actually might not be a total loss. But I can't figure out what the footprint is and I'm still waiting to hear back from Desert Tech. If they tell me it's a proprietary footprint, this will have been a complete waste of money. They don't list this product on their site, so that tells you something right there.
Pros:
- Lightweight
Cons:
- everything else
Best Used for:
- life lessons

Cheap Chinesium junk
The mount is actually relatively nice, but that’s about as much praise as I can muster. It feels like an airsoft optic and was shipped with two batteries that were both dead. It looks nice but that’s about all
Pros:
- Cheap af
Cons:
- Cheap af
Best Used for:
- A wall hanger
