ELCAN SpecterDR A weapon in itself
I was teetering with the idea of buying this for a while now. I pulled the proverbial trigger on it this past Black Friday, and boy, let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Sure, it’s a little heavy, but you can tell this optic can take a beating. I put it on my block 2 clone and I wouldn’t have it ...

Won’t hold up/expensive paperweight.
Everyone loves the ELCAN because they’ve seen them on SCAR 17’s in pictures. I carried one on a scar 17 (check that) carried 3.. my unit had the 1x4 and 1x6, and both have issues. The rotating magnifier internally will shift and won’t hold zero. Out of 10 all but one failed in under a year. For thos...

Complete trash product was delivered
This ELCAN showed up with terrible machining marks and a bad finish quality.

Robust and versatile sight.
I've had this scope for about 8 months now, and it performs just like the optic on my duty rifle. The 1x/4x switch is quick and easy to use, though it is possible to accidentally flip it if the lever catches on part of your gear. I've only had this happen once, but that was enough that I now check the position of the lever each time I sling or unsling a rifle as well as any time I've had to take my hands off to do medical, breach, etc. I have not noticed any shift in point of impact between the two magnification levels on a 2-minute rifle, but I have also never shot for groups past 100 meters on the 1x setting and don't anticipate a situation where I would. For offhand shooting any shift there might be is a non-issue compared to human error.
Optic holds zero well: I go to the bench to check zero about once a month and I've never had to adjust more than a minute unless ammo or environment were significantly different; usually I don't have to adjust at all. The BDC is close for most 62-64 grain ammo from 14-16" barrels, but the elevation is also accessible and repeatable enough that you can dial to use the center of the reticle at longer distances if you have the time.
As for the back-up irons on top of the scope, they work as expected, but if I were ever to have the optic fail I would get the thing off at the first opportunity and use a more conventional backup.
There are only two things that I don't like about this scope. The first has to do with the flip-open covers, sinc...

Best AR scope
This scope is fantastic. Heavy duty and probably indestructible. I love the built in red dot and 1-4x flip switch. It isn’t cheap but it may be the best.

Elcan Specter
This scope is amazing. It's built to last and can take an absolute beating. Working in LE I wanted something that can quickly jump between close range and medium range without the added hassle of flip up magnifiers grabbing my gear or some quickdot that takes up all the real-estate of my top rail. This thing functions as two scopes in one and even includes movable iron sights on the top to make room for another red dot. While it's certainly priced as much as two scopes Ive found NO equal, even my Trijicon ACOG found itself collecting dust after receiving this. The sights are crystal clear and flip easily back and forth between 1x and 4x with a simple pull of a leaver conveniently tucked away under the housing. If you're firm on the principle that "you can't hit what you can't see." You've found a sight worth the price tag.
Pros:
- lens caps are nice and function well
- Well constructed
- Lens are super clear
- Muli use setup. Short and longer range engagements
Cons:
- Heavy
- Pricey
Best Used for:
- Duty and combat purposes
Would recommend: Yes

Get what you pay for!
There's a reason this has such a hefty price tag, it's just that good.
Pros:
- Quickly snap from close to long range
Cons:
- Iron sights out of focus when placing scope where it needs to be

Tank of an optic
The Elcan may be behind the times when it comes to current optics and the advancements that have been made, but this thing is a TANK and easy to operate. Rotary power knob for a red dot or whole reticle illuminating, etched reticle, simple switch to go from 1x to 4x. It’s overpriced but it gets the job done and I never worry about it losing zero or not working. I love it!

gwot drip is eternal
This is one of my favorite optics. It maybe be heavy and obsolete with today’s offerings but still definitely a good reliable choice. Plus it’s just a cool looking optic. The only down side is the price. They should be $1300 since the tech is outdated

It's elcan, not elcannot
Most people seem to either love this optic or hate it. I've put a little over a thousand rounds on this optic and love it the more I shoot it. The glass is super clear, i refuse to have an optic with bad glass after getting this. Luckily I got this on sale and glad I did. Would I buy another? Probably not because this one seems like it'll last a lifetime. Even with some of the abuse I put it through.
