Most Helpful Negative Review
Great quality but a misfit
Unfortunately, despite the great product, the hole locations on the rail did not line up with receiver threads.Despite my research and answers sought before purchase, they didn’t match.Tried to widen the holes but unsuccessful. It was a waste of my money as it now sits in a drawer of scrap.
The general shape fits
Good quality material, general shape was correct, had to have a gunsmith install it because the rear dovetail was too tight to get on the rear sight. Since these rifles don’t have standard scope mounts and likely someone along the last 80years tapped it for an older scope mount, don’t expect it to be plug and play. The steel on the a3o3 is super hard and my gunsmith wanted to charge a lot to alter the tapped holes. Make sure you measure twice before ordering.
Pros:
- good quality
Cons:
- needs fitting
Would recommend: No
Correction to my previous review
This review is a correction to my prior review. I may have ordered to wrong mount. The one received is of good quality. I'm sure it will fit on another Springfield I have . That one has a Redfield base already.
Pros:
- Option of drilled or undrilled so you can match the screw spacing done by some long lost gunsnith
Cons:
- None
Would recommend: Yes
Mount base does not fit. The dovr tail on the rear is not cut into the mount
This base is advertised as having a dovetail cut on the rear. It's not there. I ordered one that was not drilled because the scope base holes in the rifle does not fit the standard screw spacing. So now I either have to modify this mount or try another one.
Pros:
- Nothing positive to say
Cons:
- It's not as described. The dove tail cut on the rear is not cut
Best Used for:
- Fishing weigh5

Fits 1903A3 Rifle Perfectly
Quality scope mount Rail with a single front screw and single back screw over the dovetail cut. Requires final fitting with an angled filing on Muzzle side of dovetail slot to fit tightly and align perfectly with screw hole in dovetail. Remember to angle the filing to allow rail to install from the right side of the rifle with more filing on the left front side of dovetail slot in the rail. Doing this allows the rail to tighten as screw hole gets close to alignment. Use a non-marring gunsmith hammer to tap the rail the last 1/4 inch of the dovetail to tighten against the dovetail at final alignment. Use a light tap and not a hard hammer hit. If you have to hit it hard, tap the rail back off the rifle and do some more filing. If you are uncertain, find a quality Gunsmith for the installation.
