Stazi's Review of Evolution Gun Works Ignition Kit with Lightened Hammer and 17 Number Main Spring

After seeing a few people put these into the Springfield Prodigy, I decided to give it a shot on my Girsan 2311 to see if it would help with the horrendous 8 pound trigger pull that it comes with from the factory. I was a little apprehensive because on the EGW website, they actually make a version with a SP suffix, denoting that it’s specifically for the Prodigy, and although I am not afraid of having to fit parts, I really didn’t want to have to do anything drastic to make this work, and then possibly end up with $120 worth of paperweights.
I am happy to say that all the parts dropped right into the gun without any need for modification, and the hardest part for me was getting the original ambi safety out of the frame and knocking the hammer strut pin out of the original hammer. I then took the pin and put it in my electric drill, and using a jewelers file, cleaned up the edges, because it had been lightly staked into the hammer, from the factory, and then it fit into the EGW hammer snuggly, without having to be beaten in.
The transformation of the trigger is absolutely amazing and using my Lyman gauge went from 8 pounds to around 3.75 pounds on average. I couldn’t be happier with this trigger kit and highly recommend it to anyone that might have a Girsan, and would like to improve the crappy OEM trigger pull. I didn’t install the 17# mainspring and not sure if it is needed, but I have it if I decide to change it.
Pros:
  • drop in, light crisp pull
Cons:
  • None
