Most Helpful Positive Review EGW Ignition kit a must for Prodigy
I was not sure if this ignition kit would really make a difference on an already well built gun. But I must say, the ignition kit got rid of the “disconnector” hang up that most prodigy owners complain about. A must for the Springfield Prodigy!

After seeing a few people put these into the Springfield Prodigy, I decided to give it a shot on my Girsan 2311 to see if it would help with the horrendous 8 pound trigger pull that it comes with from the factory. I was a little apprehensive because on the EGW website, they actually make a version with a SP suffix, denoting that it’s specifically for the Prodigy, and although I am not afraid of having to fit parts, I really didn’t want to have to do anything drastic to make this work, and then possibly end up with $120 worth of paperweights.
I am happy to say that all the parts dropped right into the gun without any need for modification, and the hardest part for me was getting the original ambi safety out of the frame and knocking the hammer strut pin out of the original hammer. I then took the pin and put it in my electric drill, and using a jewelers file, cleaned up the edges, because it had been lightly staked into the hammer, from the factory, and then it fit into the EGW hammer snuggly, without having to be beaten in.
The transformation of the trigger is absolutely amazing and using my Lyman gauge went from 8 pounds to around 3.75 pounds on average. I couldn’t be happier with this trigger kit and highly recommend it to anyone that might have a Girsan, and would like to improve the crappy OEM trigger pull. I didn’t install the 17# mainspring and not sure if it is needed, but I have it if I decide to change it.
Pros:
  • drop in, light crisp pull

  • None

Great product. Had it up and running with minor adjustments. All of the components are high quality and designed to improve overall action feel while still igniting primers with every strike of the hammer. I blued the hammer myself for an awesome look.
Pros:
  • Quality
  • Finish
  • Ease and fit
Cons:
  • price
Best Used for:
  • 2011 platforms

More work than expected, but worth it.

In addition to an EGW Flat Trigger, I bought this kit to upgrade a Colt Competition (Goverment) Stainless 9mm 1911. EGW warned that the Flat Trigger was made oversize, and would require custom fitting. They did not provide the same warning on this kit ... but, it too required fitting.

In particular, the "waist of the ball" of the disconnector was too large to fit through the hole in the frame. I did not realize this at first, and nothing worked right when I first installed the kit. After taking everything out and discovering the problem, I considered reusing the original disconnector ... but, the top of the EGW disconnector ball was ramped rather than rounded (on the original Colt disconnector). This difference in the shape reduced the "friction" between the slide and the top of the disconnector ... a good thing. (Glock did the same thing on the top of the firing pin safety plunger for their Gen5 guns.)

So, I went to work. I filed around the waist of the disconnector, again and again and again, a little at a time, until it would just drop through the hole in the frame. Then, it was time to reinstall everything. This time all went smoothly.

WOW! Did this make a difference. It went from a very wishy-washy trigger to a crisp light trigger. I am very glad I put in the extra work on the disconnector. I am very glad I installed this kit. I deducted a star because I was not warned that I might need to fit anything. BUT, I highly recommend this kit. You need to be...
