What do you do for aging eyes, and a tack driving Ruger Blackhawk?

by Rocket, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on July 11, 2022
Decades ago I purchased an out of the box tack driving Ruger Blackhawk, however the eyes aging over those same decades, made the OEM sights harder to see, and on the Blackhawk the front sight is NOT upgradable, so when I saw this mount, which basically replaces the rear adjustable sight on a Ruger Blackhawk, and finding an affordable micro red dot that fit this footprint, I had to try it. While it looses the classic style look of a Single Action Blackhawk, it certainly maintains it's tack driving ability, even with aging eyes. Why four stars? It did require a little file fitting to get the red dot to level out in the mid-range for adjustment, and the fact that it is ONLY held on with a rather small, single screw, 6-40 thread, which replace the OEM rear adjustable screw, however when installed it does seem to be pretty solid, and very enjoyable. While only a single screw mount, the design does make use of the rear tabs to absorb the impact of the recoil instead of just the single screw. Definitely recommend using Loc-Tite on the single screw, and letting it setup for at least 24 hours before use.
Pros:
  • Simple design for installation
  • Red Dot accuracy on a classic firearm
  • can change back to OEM sights when desired
Cons:
  • Single screw design concern for durability
Best Used for:
  • Red Dot on a Classic
  • Great accuracy for hunting

GP100 fitment

by Mike, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on July 11, 2021
Works great and fits snug. I opted to file some material off to get a lower seat on my GP100 22. Going to shoot and decide if I want to add to my 357.only g
Draw back is I wish it came in stainless or similar color
