doggoandguns's Review of FAB Defense AK-47 Vanguard M-LOK Handguard System
This system overall looks nice and is extremely functional. I installed this on a WASR-10 and it was a pain.
The gas tube cover had way too much material to attach it to the gas tube, so I had to sand a good amount of polymer to make it fit. Getting the gas tube back on with the Vanguard attached was almost impossible. I’m not gonna give FAB Defense a hit for the fitment because every AK is different, and I had the same problems with the Magpul handguard.
The Vanguard has 3 bottom mlock slots compared to the Magpul which only has 2. I Installed a VFG on the furthest mlock slot and it left enough room for reloads, where as the Magpul barely gave me enough room.
I picked this handguard because it had top mlock slots for a optic, unfortunately with the rails provided you cannot co witness with your irons, as the rail are too tall. This is why I gave this product 4 stars, because FAB Defense could have included a rail that included a notch in it to co witness.
The Vanguard includes 3 Mlock rails 1 long, 1 medium, and 1 that sticks out for a flashlight. Definitely a plus, although the Mlock screws do not accept the normal 1/8hex key that all the other mlock components on my rifle take. There is a included hex
This would be the perfect handguard and optics mount if FAB defense included notched pic rails to co witness with your irons.
