Tango247's Review of FLIR Systems Thermosight Pro PTS233 1.5-6x19mm Thermal Imaging Weapon Sight
I was very impressed with this Thermosight. I have experience with much larger and more expensive thermal devices and can say that for the money, this one will likely do everything you want it to without paying 10K or having to use special battery packs.
It came in a protective hard case and included a spare battery orientation clip. Controls are firm and take very little time to get oriented. I only used the spectrum (color palate) and zoom features once I got the rest set to where I wanted it. The game finder feature is good, so long as you are slow and smooth when sweeping an area. The new faster 60hz refresh right is a welcome upgrade from older units at 40hz.
Using the quick release, at least in warm weather, you can even navigate by using this as a monocular and then re-mount once you get to your stand or wherever you are going.
No, you can't really discern much about the target as they will be the color blob of your choice. That said, unless you are trying to discriminate between two similar coyotes or two hogs, the reticle is fine for kill zone shooting.
