Received my upper and am very pleased with the fit, finish and weight! Packaging states 4.4oz. I put it on a scale and got 4.55oz which is lighter than my 5.3oz aluminum reinforced polymer stripped upper from KaiserUS. CLEARLY STATES USE A BARREL ROD for installation to eliminate catastrophic failure (cracking the upper). Don't know why one reviewer called it "Chineseium"... It's a magnesium alloy. READ AND FOLLOW INSTALL DIRECTIONS instead of blaming the product for personal inabilities. Pairing this with a carbon fiber lower for the ultimate ultralight AR-15!
Pros:
- Ultralight!
- Lighter than skeletonized uppers
- Lighter than reinforced polymer uppers
Cons:
- Unnecessary forward assist
Best Used for:
- 3-gun competition
- Light duty/recreational use
- Creative ultralightweight builds

I purchased a fostech upper receiver and it had one of the dust cover ears cracked. The otem was packaged very well so the damage did not occur in transit. The item looks like it had been returned previously and put back into stock. Other than that I sent the item in and I am now waiting for the replacement to arrive.

This is not for a gun that you trust your life with. This is only for a an ultralight competition gun. This is a cast metal part. It is super light as advertised. The finish is some sort of painted on coating, it is not anodized (I am not sure magnesium can be anodized). The coating had several runs inside the upper which dried into thick drops that stood up so tall it inhibited the bolt carrier from being able to cycle. I had to sand the drops down in order to allow enough clearance to let the BCG cycle. And it still sounded rough, like there was a handful of sand in there even with lubrication. This is not for a gun that you trust your life with. This is only for a an ultralight competition gun.
Cons:
- Weak metal, low quality finish

So I am giant fostech fan and very happy with most of thier products but.... I got this alloy upper incredibly light seems be great quality but mine was slightly off. When assembling it shattered and I’m not talking hair line crack I split it inhalf at about 47ftlbs the barrel pin worked like a can opener and split it in half this was an an upper vise block which not ideal but never problem before I’ve taken an armorers course and this my seven build maybe a fluke maybe unrelated issues but when building 6.5G I want it to be more durable
Pros:
- light weight
- good price
- high quailty
Best Used for:
- 556 or 9mm builds not home defense or competition

I waited nearly six months for the arrival of my two Fostech super lightweight AR-15 uppers that are at the core of my current builds. When they finally arrived I noticed that the package claims a weight of 4.4 oz, yet both tip the scales at an even 4.9 oz. Significantly delayed and not as light as stated but nevertheless I am delighted since there is no other upper as light as these Festechs. They were well worth the wait. Mated to Fostech lowers bought last December and with other lightweight components my wife's and my ARs are incredibly light and a joy to shoot. Who could not love an AR that weighs only around 4 lb?
Cons:
- don't count on a swift delivery.

The Ultralight Magnesium Aluminum alloy stripped upper receiver. The one I received weighs 4.7 ounces, the items retail package specified the weight to be 4.4 ounces. Opening the package from Optics Planet I found the product in perfect condition. The coating on the receiver had a bumpy texture.Nothing negitive about it. However it is my understanding that anodizing is not possible with this alloy, I don't know what finish this product has applied, but it looks great.
Pros:
- Very light great price versus other products
