Well made, stupid color
The actual handguard itself seems very well made, solid barrel nut and and attachment, my biggest problem with this thing tho is the stupid color. I know its whatever their they call their own version of FDE/tan earth/ dust or whatever, but it is just different enough to look mismatched when paired with virtually any and ebery other part available for an AR-15 that comes in FDE. Maybe it would look good if you had a matching pistol grip, upper/lower receiver , stock, etc... But if you are using anything else it just looks off and not good imo.
Geissele Mk16: The Gold Standard for Hard-Use Rails
After running the Geissele Mk16 SMR on my latest build, I can see why USASOC picked it for the URG-I. The blend of rigidity, lightweight construction, and ergonomic comfort, make it a premier choice for a number of setups. If you want a duty-grade rail that can take a beating without adding unnecessary bulk, the Mk16 is the gold standard. It’s easily one of the best upgrades I’ve made.

Another winner from Geissele.
Ordered this guy for my URGI build and it rocks! Feels as solid as my KAC RIS, but half the weight. Instructions have to be DL’d from Geissele and the barrel nut is included. The main screws use a T-30, and the small adjustment screws are Allen. Anodizing seems to be pretty stiff: it took a hit from a wedding ring and no scuffs. 10/10.

Pricey, but BOMBPROOF
Got the DDC version for my 10.5" SBR.
Just enough real estate to fit the accessories I want, and feels good in the hand.
Not a huge fan of the DDC color - it doesn't pair quite right with other generally-tan products. But I painted it anyways, so whatever.
The barrel nut is designed very well, and if you follow instructions when installing the handguard, then what you will end up with is an absolutely bombproof handguard. It's expensive, yeah, but for a hard-use rifle, it's worth every penny.

Geissele quality but…
Specifically wanted this Geissele rail for my new build. After winning the SOCOM contract with this model, I wanted to try something with the anti-rotation tabs. Once it’s installed, absolutely one of the best systems I’ve ever used. But…getting it installed had its potholes. First, the barrel nut was stuffed so tightly into the rail, it wouldn’t come out. I had to heat the rail and use a pick to remove the nut. Once removed it was obvious that the barrel nut had a pronounced sharp raised edge after final machining. Also, the threads for the anti-rotation tabs had excessive raised material as well. Used some crocus cloth to smooth done the edges and burrs, worked fine after that. The low profile barrel nut is awesome, no holes or serrations to line up for the gas tube. Last thing, MSRP for this rail is $350… it should the installation tool for this price point. If you have a spanner wrench set, you probably won’t need the Geissele tool. The finished product is outstanding but it took some extra effort to get it right.
Pros:
- Quality
- extemely rigid
Cons:
- unfinished edges
- missing tool
Best Used for:
- High End AR Build
