Triangle 26's Review of Guard Dog Body Armor Level IIIa Concealable Soft Armor
I don’t know why Guard Dog can’t be bothered to publish the specs on their own product, but here are the measurements from the size medium vest I took a chance on:
Overall weight: 3lbs 4oz
Ballistic Insert Material: Soft UHMWPE, modified swimmers cut.
Front Ballistic Insert: 12.75”x11.5”x0.56”, 19 oz
Rear Ballistic Insert: 15.75”x11.5”x0.56”, 23.5 oz
Carrier Material: 100% Polyester
Carrier Weight: 9.5 oz
Fit: I am 5’9, 180 lbs, 39” chest. Wear a size large shirt. Size medium carrier fits perfectly.
Pros: Great price, very comfortable.
Cons: Need a buddy to zip it up, otherwise it’s an awkward pull-over. Not actually “concealable”.
Bottom Line: I’m very happy with my purchase, this is a huge upgrade over my issued vest, for not a lot of money.
That said, I am a uniformed officer - so I don’t really care about concealment. I only care about value and comfort, I’m not actually trying to hide the fact that I have a vest on.
If you want a cheap comfortable vest for work, I recommend this. If you want to wear a vest without other people knowing, you might need to spend a little more money (consider the Premier Body Armor Everyday Armor Shirt).
