Bought this on another site. I picked the Guntec because it's practically impossible to find a lightweight handguard with color selection that fits a billet upper. There are only a couple out there.
I'd give the handguard itself 3 stars. The finish machining isn't very nice, very "crisp" edges to all the cuts. Like they took it right off the CNC machine and painted it. That alone makes it feel cheap compared to other brands I've used. I don't know if it's the quality of the coating or the machining, but you can see some slight marks in the right light. It just looks a lot cheaper than it actually costs.
My bigger complaint is with Guntec. As soon as I picked up the package I could tell the handguard was too heavy. Weighed it, sure enough it's 3 ounces heavier than listed. I took off my old HG, barrel, gas block, then put it all back on with the new nut, only to find out that my 1.25" crowfoot is about a millimeter too wide for the flats. I'm very annoyed at this point. I go to four different stores and none carry a slim crowfoot over 1". I see that Guntec sells one on their site... for $20... PLUS $20 SHIPPING. The issue is that they're too cheap and / or lazy to manufacture appropriate barrel nuts for the two different styles of free float HGs they make. There's literally no reason for the "clamp on" HG to use ...
