Toophless's Review of HERA Arms AR15 Leather Grip

Like another reviewer stated, the design isn't great. As you tighten the screw, the two-piece grip starts to split side to side. The leather is holding the sides together at that point. I'm not going to give up on it though. I may break it down and epoxy the two halves together if that is possible. I got the light tan "natural" version as the dark brown was out. I used a heat gun and Sno-Seal, then Mink oil which gave it a much nicer, richer look. The grip feels nice and offers plenty of purchase. Not sure if that would be true if it got wet. I like the storage option though it is small. Two 5.56 rounds will probably fit. It just needs to be built in one piece or use some sort of fasteners to hold the two halves together. If my epoxy trick works I'll re-review it. I mean, it works and it would probably get some props at the range, but I wouldn't want to depend on it long-term. If I decide to make one of my ARs a wall-hanger behind the bar, I might put it back on then. On a gun-wall it would be sharp. I don't have a gun-wall. Yet.
Pros:
  • Aestetically pleasing
Cons:
  • design flaw
Best Used for:
  • A prop or display use.
