Gonzo's Review of HERA Arms CQR Buttstock GEN.2

I wanted so bad for this to be an improvement over Gen 1. So let's start with the positivies.

The way the pistol group mounts and secures the safety detent pin and spring is vastly improved. This one works like any other proper milspec grip. No more cheesy rubber plug that I'm afraid is going to fall out when the rifle is bumped the wrong way. This also isn't so dependant on your lower being exactly milspec for contour between the grip and the buffer. The shape is very "tacticool" but I'm not sure how practical as others have mentioned.

Now the problems. Build quality is questionable in certain areas like the length of pull extension. I'm not sure I trust that to be extended. It definately could have been designed in a more durable way. The fact that it only works on a rifle buffer is just stupid and poor design. This could have easily been designed to work on both like the PRS stocks. Also, there is no screen to attach to the rifle buffer. In my experience, the buffer tube comes without and assumes the stock will come with one. Apparently Hera never imagined you install this on a brand new rifle build and only thought it would ever be used as an upgrade with an existing screw cause this stock doesn't come with one either. Now I'm off to order a screw as a replacement part, pay more for shipping than the screw is worth and wait days to complete my build because neither Aero or Hera could be othered to throw in a screw.
Pros:
  • Looks cool
  • Solves some gen 1 problems
Cons:
  • Impractical
  • Skimpy on parts for install
  • Poor design choices
Best Used for:
  • Cosplay
  • impressing your friends
  • Spaceforce
