This Monogrip will also fit the Ruger Super Wrangler .22LR/.22WMR convertible single action revolver. But there is a "catch" to installation. The grip frame of the Super Wrangler is made of zinc alloy. Which is too roughly finished to allow rubber grip and steel "stirrup" with pin to move smoothly and fit properly.
Grip frame needs to be lightly lubricated with paste wax FIRST. Before installing stirrup and rubber grip. I used Johnson's Paste Wax. But any carnauba wax should work. Use a toothpick to keep amounts of wax applied very thin. Lightly wax the sides of the grip frame, the bottom strap, and the front strap. The large pins on the bottom strap need some wax to ease assembly of rubber grip to grip frame. But no wax on the back strap. This needs to be kept dry.
Put on the stirrup and pin, and it will move smoothly on the waxed bottom strap. Then follow instructions on connecting the rubber grip to the grip frame. The grip will move smoothly onto the waxed sides and straps of the grip frame into position. When grip "stops" in its final position, hold firmly and line up the screw to the stirrup screw hole. Start screw into "stirrup" very gently at first. Make sure screw is engaging properly, not pointed crookedly, possibly damaging screw thread. Stirrup may need to be shifted slightly for proper position. If screw is going in straight and smoothly, tighten slowly and gently, until a slight "stop" is felt. See if grip is firmly positioned, not "wiggling". Then tighten slightly more to stop any grip movement on the grip frame if needed. If grip is firm, do not tighten screw any more. It may damage the zinc alloy grip frame.
You will have achieved proper grip installation. If worried about overtightening the screw, put a cut piece of foam ear plug into the "stirrup" just above the screw plate hole before waxing bottom grip strap. Making a kind of "sandwich" cushion out of the stirrup. Still, avoid overtightening the screw. The foam ear plug will react like clay under screw pressure. It has cushioning limits. Only gave 4 stars, because grip leaves small gaps at top of grip. Invitation to dust and debris to get into action parts and cause trouble. Gaps should be filled up with small amounts of paste wax to seal out debris. Any wax oozing out of other parts of grip should be wiped dry. A paper towel will do. The Ruger Super Wrangler will now have a superior rubber grip at reasonable price for a "budget" revolver in a reasonable time.
Pros:
Superior grip at reasonable price
Cons:
Zinc alloy grip frame needs lubrication to install grip. Hogue grips of similar design may also need lubrication to install
Best Used for:
Improvement over cowboy style grips. Protection of grip frame from shock damage if dropped on the ground
