Excellent optic at an affordable price. Was wanting a Trijicon MRO but after doing my research I was thoroughly let down by the lack of features offered at the price point of the MRO 2.0 and HD. This optic won me over in price, the ability to run the optic on ambient light using the solar panel, the battery life/peace of mind that the optic offers through MOTAC, the construction and protection offered with the lens covers, and the lower 1/3 cowitness mount with QD. That is a much better deal and is not as bulky as the MRO. I highly recommend this optic.
Pros:
- battery life
- Construction
- lens covers
- MOTAC
- qd mount included
- Lower 1/3
- Dual Reticle

Can't go wrong with the 515, I've had it on my 74, and bren 2. It's rugged, and reliable the auto on is great. The solar isn't my favorite so it's been switched off. You won't be disappointed with this optic.
Pros:
- Rugged, accurate, quality
Cons:
- Solar isn't my favorite, so I don't use it. Good to have for a backup

There are a number of scratches in the left hand side of the body. The cam quick detach is only adjustable in full turns instead of half turns because of the geometry of the lever and locking system. Speaking of the quick detach lever, this piece of the optic is also garbage and has extensive scratching in the finish. You cannot easily remove the kill flash to get rid of the honeycomb effect in the field of view. The reticle is only able to be changed from the circle and dot to the dot only when you are using the manual brightness adjustment mode which works only on the battery setting. This is a tremendous step back from the 507 RMR style where you can adjust the radical selection regardless of power mode. The finish either rubbed off on my lab gloves as I'm handling it for the first time or it is dirty from being a previously used product.
Cons:
- Scratches
- Lack of reticle selection in all power modes
- Limited adjustment to the cam mount
Best Used for:
- Wasting your money and time

Never got to use it, couldn’t get the battery tray to properly seat with the included oring well enough to function and had to return. Seems like either the supplied oring is the wrong size/thickness, or my tray was out of spec.
My second attempt at a holosun sight, nothing wrong with the first just decided to return it for this when I realized it was an open emitter and reflective surface, which doesn’t serve my intended use well as a shtf optic.
Even so, I haven’t entirely given up on holosun, but I’ve had to move my consideration for the brand as a whole from “budget duty grade optic” to “decent quality range toy and rimfire optic”.
Considering a model of the paralow in the future for my 10/22, and I’m considering the titanium tube model for actual duty carry when the time is right.
I appreciate the concept of an affordable solar powered shake to wake quality dot sight, but at the pricepoint of some of their higher grade, long battery life sights, there is also Aimpoint, Vortex, Sig Sauer, and I’m sure there will be other notable names jumping in the solar enhanced dot sights.
Would love to see an illuminated FFP-LPVO with the same solar capabilities and 100k hour battery life. If holosun could actually pull it off the first time they might get me.

Purchased as an upgrade from an older model. Fits in the same rail footprint, roughly similar height. The lens covers are a bit stiff, but I'll probably complain when they get too loose. The quick release cam is reasonably intuitive and locks in tight.

What's the difference between the 515CU and 515 CM? I have the 515 CU and I can't seem to find another one anywhere. So I just want to know what the CU and the CM stand for.I've changed it out from AR to AK it holds it ZERO extremely well. And now that I finally find the ideal red dot I can't seem to find anymore. The ability to reduce the red dot to almost disappear makes it ideal for high precision shots at long range. If you focus hard enough to see it.
Pros:
- You can reduce the red dot for high precision shots.
Cons:
- THE REPLACEMENT SCREES FOR THE BATTERY CAN BE A LITTLE BIT BIGGER.

I’ve always liked Holosun…I have alot of their products because I love the features they come with…But for some reason on this particular optic the Reticle seems to be just slightly canted to the right…it doesn’t bother me too much yet but I’m worried about how it will track when I go to zero it in…

I rated this product three stars because it doesn't do 1 thing that holosun says it can do. The manual mode works just fine; however, there is a problem with the auto mode. In auto mode the solar panel works just fine when there is ambient light. I actually doesn't even need much ambient light. However, when the ambient light drops the reticle almost completely disappears. It disappears to a point that it is not usable. The manual says that in auto mode under low light conditions the unit will switch to the battery and you can use the + or - to adjust the reticle brightness. I tried to adjust the reticle brightness and it still remained undetectable. I even compared it to my 509T, which i use as a backup sight on my other rifle, and when i cover both solar panels the 509T dims but it is detectable while the 515 is gone. I sent my first 515 back, thinking it might be a faulty unit but had the same problem with the replacement unit. I called holosun and explained the situation and they where completely useless. They said that the unit was behaving the way it should. I told the rep that when the unit is in auto mode that it disappears. He said that i can just push the + or - to adjust the reticle but it still remains largely unusable. I asked why do the 509T and 515 behave differently under low light. Hew said it was because one is a rifle optic while the other was a pistol optic; but, that doesn't make sense to me. When the 509T is under low light situation it s...

Love this sight. Super Rugged construction and built in flip caps make this perfect for AK 1oclock mounting. Super bright and clear dot makes acquiring instant. Small size keeps it from being a nuisance and sticking out. I have two other Holosun open designs but this one is my favorite. Excellent engineering and great price point. A REAL WINNER!!

Good quality. Best part is that it doesnt have the ugly HOLOSUN logo in white like other models.
Optic body feels more quality than optics that are 3times more expensive. Only downside is the battery cap. Screws on it will wear down ifnyou tighten few times. It comes with two tho. But i am worried i wont be able to unscew to take the cap off next time i change the battery.
